Title: Barking when I leave the room but not when OH does?

Hi,

Does anyone know how I can train them not to do this? I have two cockers and when I stand up they race to the door, barking, whirling round, and when I open the door they race off to the back door, barking and racing each other as they go. It doesn't appear to be aggressive or anxiety but just general excitement, however they never do this to my husband in fact they don't even bother getting up if he leaves the room!

I do tend to be the one who lets them into the garden and gets up to give them their treats so I thought it might be related to that.

The situation isn't as bad if the lounge door isn't shut but we tend to have to close it to keep the warmth in!

Anyway any advice would be gratefully received.

Maybe it is a case of training your husband to let them out and give them treats too?  ;)

It sounds rather like a learned behaviour - they associate you getting up with "good things" and are anticipating what will happen...
Maybe try to break the habit by perhaps throwing some kibble around the floor before you get up, so they are busy sniffing around for goodies....
