Sorry to ask another question, this might seem really silly. :embarassed:
I've seen golden cocker spaniel puppies advertised but also red puppies advertised - just wondered are these two different colours, is red darker than the golden, or is it just different names for the one colour?
:embarassed: Thanks in advance.

They are different but more like shades of the same colour than completely different colours, to my mind anyway. I have one of each (obviously they're working Cockers), Rodaidh is gold and Caoimhe is red and you can see the difference pretty clearly. Ro has a lot more tones in his coat than Caoimhe, it goes from dark reddish on his back to yellowy gold on his face and legs to silvery-gold on his feathering and ears. Caoimhe's coat really glows, she's really deep red all over apart from some blonde bits which have appeared on her ears and back leg feathering. Red/gold is by far my favourite colour, I think they're stunning :luv:

There's a girl red show cocker I see on my school run with Odie (golden show). When the pair of them get together, their colouring is very similiar to Nicola's two. The red one is more or less a gorgeous red all over, where as Odie is a rich golden on his back but he's got blonde top knot/chest and feathering.

The goldens I have seen are almost blonde, whereas reds can be nearly auburn.

I have been asked if they are Hungarian Vizslas and "miniature Golden Retrievers" (that was just last week!) :lol2: And Caoimhe has also been called an Irish Setter puppy.

I've been asked on a few occasions if bella is a red setter puppy. Although having nearly crashed my car once staring at two red setter puppies I can see why I've been asked. Bless her though she's going grey now >:(
They're by far my favourite colour too, especially in the sun
And on the registered documents she's down as gold

When our Irish setter was a pup people would constantly stop and comment on what a lovely cocker pup we had. We just used to giggle. They all started to look a bit aghast when the legs just got longer and longer over the weeks :lol2:

My Ruby is a definite Golden she has patches of slightly dark gold right down to almost pure blonde bits on her feathers... yet her mum is slightly more Red,

Our Maike is the same colour as Caoimhe but I have to admit I always thought they were just referred to as golden or orange, red is much more appropriate. You can't take her out without being asked whether she's a red setter, she'll be mistaken for a setter pup all her life I think!

Wow Nicola, I could look at that photo of the three of yours together all day. They are SO handsome, and such beautiful Autumnal tones!

Thank you :luv: I think they look like bouncers and Caoimhe has a very odd face on :005: She tends to have quite a serious expression sometimes, that photo doesn't really look particularly like her!

Bramble & Beri are both gold ( Registered names Our Golden Nugget and Kingfisher Gem ) Beri does look more red than golden but Bramble is definitely gold. They are brothers from the same litter.
This pic from when they were about a year old shows it clearly. Bramble has a pink nose and pale eyes and Beri has a black nose and black eyes.

Brilliant pics as always Nicola :luv:

Saffi is quite close to Bramble in colour - she is Lemon - but on the Golden side of Lemon I guess - it is all a bit of a continuum. :005:

If you saw our Jemima and Ruby you would definitely see that they are red show girls. Ruby especially is a very, very deep red (that's why her kc name is Rouge Royale!). :luv:

Some lovely photos on this thread and gorgeous dogs. Henshallboys could you tell me where you got Bramble and Beri's harness from?
Erica.
