Hi,
Just need a bit of advice about grooming Dexter!
He has developed a mop of hair on the top of his head which is getting close to growing into his eyes and his feet look like a donkey’s feet that haven’t been clipped! The fur is curing up at the end! :-\
He is only 6 months so haven’t had his hair cut yet but the rest of his body is just developing the cockerness nicely! I have been putting off getting his feet and head done because he will be all grown up then and not my little fur baby anymore!
I am interested in getting him hand stripped in the future and just wondered whether having bits of him clipped now affect whether hand stripping can be done when he is older?

Apparently getting them clipped now means they can't be handstripped later - when I enquired about Charlie the lady did say unless you plan on showing him she'd recommend clipping but she'd do him however I wanted. I got him clipped - HOWEVER I do have a mars coat king and a hand stripper and it is still possible to hand strip him - I do wonder if it more means clipping him for years then switching?

I take Penny for 'tidy up'. She gets a bath, her feet trimmed and the top of her head and neck done with thinning scissors. She also gets her legs tidied. I think it's a good idea to get them usedto the groomer from a fairly early age. I was very definite with the groomer that I didn't want her coat clipped so she used a coat king to gradually remove the puppy fluff. Just make it clear that you want no clippers when you take him.

Thanks - I'm going to ring somebody today. Going to the Lakes in a couple of weeks so would be nice to have him trimmed for then - less hair feet to get things stuck in!

Hi everyone
It is possible to strip some cockers if they have only been clipped once but it isn't ideal. and some may not ba able to be stripped at all after one clip.
if you clip the coat, you leave the dead hair in there which should have come out to allow new hairs to grow. eventually you will lose the life stages of the coat and that is why you can't strip a coat that has been clipped. and the reason why clipped cockers have a dense, dull coat.

Just booked him in for a bath and tidy up, no clipping allowed so he should still be able to be stripped when he is older and ready for it then?
