Title: do i have a sad doggie?
Post by: Rileysmum on May 16, 2012, 09:05:31 PM
hi please can someone help me, when we got Riley as a pup we already had a cat jojo, and they have always gotten on really well they even snuggled up together on the sofa and bed dont get me wrong now and then the play got a little rough but most of the time they looked out for each other, sadly jojo had to be put to sleep last thursday which was a massive shock to us all he was only 6 and had a blood clot which paralysed him :embarassed: riley keeps going to the cat flap thinking hes heard jojo come in and also hes off his food, hes his usual self on walks and ive been trying to spend as much time as i can with him (i dont work) my son and hubby are also showering him with extra love, i just wanted to know what i can do to help him would getting a new kitty ease his worry, i really dont know what to do??? sorry to waffle on :-\

Sorry to read of your loss of JoJo. It is always a bad time for humans when a pet dies, and I guess Riley must be feeling the loss too. Sounds like you are doing your best to comfort him, but as far as possible I think I would keep things  normal, and hopefully slowly, but surely Riley will feel better... and so will you.  Not sure about a new kitten yet - how do you feel yourselves about it?

So sorry to about your loss...it really hard when we lose a much loved pet and i am sure it must be just as hard on Riley as he has lost his companion/playmate. Given time i am sure he will be back to his usual self

So sorry about your sad news with Jojo  :'(
Poor Riley will be missing him, esp. as he has always been with Jojo  :'(
Many years ago when we lost our 1st cocker Sam, our Golden Retriever spent weeks looking for him esp. out in the garden  :'(  it was heartbreaking to watch  :'(
After a few weeks he did settle down & seemed a little happier  :shades:  It is a difficult time for them with losing a lifetime friend & of course for yourselves  :'(
Not sure what to suggest atm as it might be worth waiting a few weeks to see how Riley gets on  :-\  I would perhaps take Riley out for extra walks & if poss. to different surroundings to try to occupy his mind.  Also do you have some friends with dog's you could meet up with for Riley to have a play & run round with?  :shades:
I hope he becomes his normal happy self very soon  :luv:
Thinking of you too  :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

No advice as I've not had a dog and cat combo but wanted to send you some  :bigarmhug:  I know it's devastating losing a beloved pet, especially at a young age :'(

When we had Bonnie Boo 5 years ago we had Lucy puddy tat. She tolerated Bonnie when she was a pup but over the years they grew quite close in a funny sort of way. Lucy would stalk Bonnie and tease her then run off. We had to have Lucy PTS about a year ago and Bonnie Boo definitely missed her and even now I think she feels Lucy at the cat door. She seemed very sad and out of sorts for a good few months.
Sad to here about Jojo :luv:

Hi sorry for your loss, such a young age. Would be interesting to know if you allowed him to see Jojo. No help to you now I know but its often helpful if they are able to see a deceased companion, it has been known to help and seems to stop them searching for their pal. Often dogs behave differently to us as they wonder why we are upset, which could also account for his appeared `sadness`. Little is known whether dogs grieve like humans but its a tough time for all concerned all the same. Hope he settles and am sure he is enjoying the extra attention!

Ah...I feel for you all, and especially Riley as he has no idea really.

We are going through a sad time at the moment.  Luis is looking all around the house and sniffing everything in the hope of finding Freya who died on Monday.

I hope you manage to get him another little companion, or that he settles, given a bit more time.

Hugs for you all....and a giant one for Riley. Xxxx

So very sorry about Jojo.  Poor Riley and Luis, it is so hard when you cannot explain things to them.

Aahh that's great news. I always think a new kitten is the best way to mend a broken heart! I've always started my search for a kitten within a few days of losing one, as a way of distracting myself!
