Youd think that not liking the vet would be enough to make her stay well, but oh no, not Posie.
This morning I was woken by that retching sound, andi got her onto the laminate floor just in time for a couple of small puddles of that foamy bile. Not too bad and she seemed ok afterwards so I out it down to still being a little off form from her recent op - and all the grass she's been eating.
However, a soon after this I took her into the garden and lept an eye on her. She got positioned to poo and I thought that was fine, except what came out was mucous and blood. Lots of blood. She did this a second time which really panicked me so I got on the phone to the vet and they asked me to take her straight down. Lucky illy is was 8.30am so a quiet time.
The vet gave her a good check over, read all her recent notes, and managed to get Posie to play with him a little - her showing no signs of being poorly whatsoever. He reassured me that blood wasn't automatically a terrible sign and that he wasn't concerned for her immediate health based on recent history and observations.
We were sent home with something akin to Gavisgon and told to keep an eye on her and go back if it gets worse or continues for days on end.
I took her to the park afterwards and the first thing she did was "squirt" blood on the grass, but this time there was actual runny poo mixed in - and far less blood.
We think she's just got an inflamed stomach lining after all the recent illness, but by god does she put me through the wringer. I've had a stressful couple of weeks including being ill myself. This is the day after my wife has gone abroad on business for 5 weeks, and at the same time as my elderly father has come to stay (he's with my brother for a night or two, thankfully). Is this post about Posie or me? I wonder.

Is she on any meds at the moment?
Just wondering if a bit of
pro-biotic goat yog might help to
calm things for her :-\

that is hardly surprising after all
this worry.

Poor Posie and poor you too. Fingers crossed that the Gaviscon type stuff does the trick and that Posie is back to normal very soon.

She finished her med's last week and has been on form since Thur/Fri. She's eaten almost normally and been playing with people & dogs as she always does with no sign of being poorly.
We've had one more small bout of vomiting this afternoon but it was just water and the Gavisgon that she was given. She's since eaten one of her chews, which is an odd choice of first meal after being sick. She declined a lovely piece of chicken earlier but I'm cooking some rice to go with it for her dinner. Hopefully the worst has passed and some gentle care and rest will do the trick.
The blood did look a bit congealed which to me implies clotting so possibly some stomach lining has been damaged. Not unsurprising after her op, but I'll be keeping a close eye on here.

Yes chicken and rice or
white fish and rice, that would be
what I would do for a few days
bland stuff that isn't going to challenge
her tum, I might be inclined to
confiscate any chews etc for
the time being.
It can take a bit of time for the
natural gut flora to re-establish
after anti-biotics.
Holland and Barrett do Acidophilis
capsules which can be useful too.

Ah...it is a post about both of you of course.
A trouble shared is a trouble halved....and that it the great thing about COL.
Hope Posie recovers soon.....and as for you.....I recommend a high dose of strictly medicinal alcohol....and a dog on your lap for comfort. :luv:

Poor Posie, I am sorry she is still a bit poorly. Hope the new medicine helps and she is soon properly better.

She was fine through the night but has been sick several times this morning and is as flat as a pancake, energy-wise. She's eating a lot of grass but uninterested in fresh chicken and rice.
I'm also feeling a bit off colour and my dad comes to stay tonight. Not good timing. >:(

Will this ever end?
Posie was sick at 3am then went to sleep on the sofa, which she never does when we're in bed, so I went to sleep on the other sofa so I could keep an eye on her. That meant I didn't sleep well but at least she slept through.
She's had some rice & tuna over 2 hours ago and still hasn't brought it back up, AND earlier this morning she managed a poo, which makes me think something new is getting through. I don't know about her, but I could do with some fresh air.
At least I've avoided being sick myself and my dad stayed an extra night with my brother. I think I'll have to take him tonight through. The problem is that he's not in great health either, so the house is going to have 3 sickies in it.

Update:
Posie managed to eat the equivalent of a full meal over 4 hours today (oh, yesterday) and kept it all down. She was also back to her normal bouncy self.
A slight issue arose at 3.30am when she wanted out. She was out there for a few minutes and when she came in there was definitely something not right ut she ran past me with her tail between her legs. When I got to the bedroom she was sitting on a pillow looking very sheepish. Then I noticed the poo on the carpet, in a trail as if she'd dragged her bum. Then I noticed the big chunk of it stuck to her tail...and the pillow. :020:
She clearly knew it was wrong, but it wasn't her fault and after the time sheshadnlately she was never in fear of being told off. The hard part was getting her to get off the bed and into the bathroom for a impromptu shower.
A change of bedding and bit of carpet cleaning later and were ready for bed again. Unfortunately now I can't get to sleep. >:(
The good thing is that I know for certain that she is processing food all the way through her system rather than just throwing it up. Hidden blessings, eh?

Aw poor Posie worrying about that and poor you having to clean the bedding and her up! Very nice though that you can find the silver lining - sometimes they are very hard to spot but well worth looking for them :blink:
