On Thursday last week we notice Rosie had blood flowing around her mouth at first we thought perhaps she has cut her gum after having a bone the day before and I know blood always looks worst in the mouth area due to saliva so we were not to worried.
Friday morning hubby got up to find pools of blood all over the kitchen floor and Rosie with red front legs and chest, still thinking that maybe it is related to a cut in her mouth or perhaps a broken tooth he took Rosie to our vets. On checking her mouth vet could not really see what was going on due to the amount of blood and had concerns that it was not clotting. On doing a test he was concerned that her platletts were on the low side and took bloods for sending for more intensive testing.
Rosie was given anti-biotic and steroid injections to help get her blood to clot, to say we were worried is an understatement, Rosie has been having some weird episodes which she had an MRI scan back in October but no underlying cause was found. At this point we do not know why her blood count is so low or how long it has been like it and to think that as it turned out to be a minor nick in her gum that has highlighted this problem.
Rosie in herself is fine maybe a little bit more tired that normal and is back to the vets in the morning for another check and hopefully her results so that we may know what we are dealing with fingers crossed it can be corrected

Oh no Aljeana, poor Rosie :016: :bigarmhug: I hope that the vets can get to the bottom of the problem and have Rosie on the road to recovery very soon :bigarmhug:

That's awful :( I hope they can give you some answers soon. Have you considered an auto immune problem like immune mediated thrombocytopaenia? Gentle hugs to your girl:)

That's one of the possiblities that my vet is thinking thankfully I really trust my vet been with him for a very long time and they will not sit on a problem if they can't get to the bottom of it they will send her to someone who can. They saved my Jodie at 12 weeks by a quick diagnosis so fingers crossed they may know today the underlying cause.
Its so hard Rosie is nearly 12yrs & we know we have been sitting on a time bomb with all the odd episodes like a fit but not they were looking for tumours back in October & found nothing so lets hope this was just a freaky problem

you can trust :) It's awful when you're basically waiting for something to go wrong but you don't know what. You must be terribly worried! Hugs to you and your girl :)

Results back today from blood dianostic test only show 2 things that are not correct 1 her inmune system is rock bottom and her blood count is only 16 and should be somewhere between 100 & 400, vet feels that something has caused the change and could be a tumour somewhere.
Rosie had a MRI scan back in October and it did not show anything so not sure where or what he is going to be looking for.
For now his main concern is to get her blood count up to a minimum of 50 so we have got meds to aid this Azathioprine & Prednisolone and go for a review on Tuesday stange thing is if we had not have had the major bleed on Friday you would not think there is anything wrong as Rosie is doing all her normal stuff eating is ok just a bit more sleepy.
If anyone has experience of these meds or problems of this nature I would appreciate any advice

So sorry to read about Rosie....wish it had been a better outcome for you all.

Hi sorry Rosie is so poorly at the moment I really hope the meds work and she starts to improve. One of my cockers Jasper has an auto immune disease and he was on both of the drugs you mentioned they made a real difference he was also on Chlorambucil too. Fingers crossed for Rosie.
