Title: Separate Training regime for new puppy.
Post by: Lily Freya on August 01, 2012, 07:24:49 PM
We lost our older dog Freya recently, and our new puppy comes to us late August.

As we have two male dogs, almost 4 years of age....do you think puppy classes for training away from the home is best for Gracie Mae?

We had trouble with training the boys because they were two puppies together....although we got there in the end.  Just wondered if taking her into a different environment from training is best.

Would love the benefit of your experience.

I do both with mine. We will be starting puppy classes with Alfie soon and I also take him into the garden, whilst OH entertains the other two indoors  ;) I agree that your current boys will be a distraction. I did initially find that Alfie pined a bit for the other two but he now associates the going outside with a clicker as food time  :luv: :luv:

Oh thanks for that.  You seem to have the same situation.  :luv:

I would think training your new pup on a 1 to 1 away from your other two may be a good idea, 1) to help pup's concentration, 2) to build up a bond with each other (you and pup) & 3) so pup socialises with other dogs at a young age.

I always walk and train a new dog/puppy separately for the first 6 months or so! This gives me time to do training, playing and with that bonding with the new dog.  :D
