Title: Can dogs with missing teeth eat bones?

Hi All,

Basil is due to have some teeth out at the end of this month. The vet things he will need between 6 and 8 removed. He's 12 and does like to eat bones. What I am wondering is whether he will still be able to have bones with missing teeth. I am hoping so as I'd like to try and keep the rest of his teeth healthy. Is there anything I need to be aware of e.g. are some bones more appropriate for him than others?

Erin is missing 5 front teeth ( due to an accident) and yes she still attempts to chew on a bone...it just takes her a while  :005:
She does not bad with rawhide but we are going to try her with a stag bar to see if she likes them

My old bischon had all of his teeth removed when he was 14 and happily nawed on a knuckle bone as a Sunday treat. Dogs are amazing adapters to life. :D

Brodie has front teeth taken out to correct an underbite and still manages well with chicken wings, never tried her with other bones but no probs with tough chews etc either.

Edit: she doesn't like picking up large objects which is one reason I haven't tried her with other bones, but I'm not sure if that is due to a weakness in her jaw or the missing teeth x

Wilf eats bones and has a fair few missing teeth (removed by my vet a year or so ago)
