hello guys, i saw my first ever tick, and it's on my cocker - terri! terri's on advocate, so no ticks protection... removed it with a tick twister... how can i assure myself i removed everything? also, any chance getting diseases and infection? are there anything i can do??
any advices on what's a good ticks protection going forward, anyone knows about tick collars, do they work and do they need to be on 24/7?
thanks loads...

Hi, We had our first ever ticks recently when we went away and removed them with the otom tool. We knew we had got it all out as it was still alive so all intact. They are pretty difficult to kill though so ended up using boiling water. I just kept an eye on the place it had been and luckily there was no weeping, scabbing etc and Max was fine.
I use stronghold which doesn't protect from ticks but for some reason I thought advocate did kill them. If I lived in an area where they are wide spread I would probably look at using something from the vet to stop them attaching in the first place but we seem to be in a fairly tick free area. Not sure if the collars would work.

max, thanks and i got my assurance the tick's all out!
after i got it out, it was still alive, but i thought it could be alive even i didnt take it all out (um, sounds silly :P)! since we hated it so much, we squeezed it and flushed it away LOL
we also live in an area without ticks, not sure when the tick attached on terri! probably when we went to countryside for a walk...
