Title: Agitated behaviour. Help please...
Post by: karen488 on August 28, 2012, 09:38:32 AM
Our boating holiday was a bit of a nightmare for one reason and another. One of the reasons was Bingley. The first time I went to walk him alongside the tow path off lead he leapt into the water down a 4ft drop and couldnt get out. Awful moment. Anyhow I managed to balance on the edge of the canal, lean over and pull him out. This meant that the dogs were on the lead for the rest of the holiday. They were also underwalked as the temperatures were so hot. So Bingley was very barky and agitated for the whole week. He couldnt settle. Restaurants were a nightmare. I burst into tears in Strasbourg as he barked the whole way around and everyone was staring at us. I was getting very worried as to how distressed he was getting and if he would ever be the same again. Now home, He's had a couple of good walks and is back to normal. However, we went to the pub for lunch yesterday and he wouldn't settle. Historically, he has always been a bit vocal. He doesn't like being contained in any way, on a lead, in the sit position. He doesn't like the family seperated, if 1/2 of us are over a stile he barks. I am going camping tomorrow and am worried about his behaviour. I am wondering about the following...
is this behaviour distress?
is it disobediance?
whilst Darcey is v much bonded to me, Bingley is more evenly bonded to the whole family, does he need a clear master?
He's very much a "what's next?" dog, can you teach patience ??????

This behaviour could be distress or could just be a learned behaviour. I would get a qualified behaviour adviser to help you understand what is going on. ;)

Thanks Mark. He def. needs more training. Anyone any ideas as to how I should deal with him over the next 3 days if he's the same camping?
