Hi all, we have had a lovely day out in Maldon, its about a 45 min car journey, but poor Lily had suffered car sickness. The first time it happened we just thought it may have been gulping her breakfast. So today we left later and she was sick again. Can I buy something off of the Internet or get her something from the vets. X

Not sure, the last time we had a car sick dog the only thing the vet could give was a sedative which made her sleep - and she was dopey all day, not a lot of good if you want to be able to take them somewhere nice for a walk! Maybe one of the D.A.P collars might help?

Ginger is recommended. You could try giving her a stem ginger biscuit before you set off. I don't know how effective it is though as my dogs haven't been travel sick so far.

Are bless :luv:
I've got no answers but there are plenty on here that will ;)

An old wives tale I have heard, is sit them on brown paper, dOg!! knows how it works, but it is cheap to try :005:
Ginger might help, also valerian if you think stress is causing the sickness. If you do think stress is the cause, you could try introducing her to the car in bite sized sessions. 1. in the car for a few mins without driving and build the time up to 10mins day by day. 2. a few short 5/10mins journeys and build that up.
Our Charlie doesnt travel well in the very back of the car, but he is very happy to travel in a safety harness on the back seat, 6 hr journey, with a short break no problem. Perhaps try moving him.
Also he travels better in OH's car than mine, not that I am suggesting you by a new car :005:
Hope your travels with Lily improve soon. It is so much fun to explore further afield with our cockers.

Might be a great excuse :005: 'Darling, I need a new car, Lily's been sick in this one' :005:

I had a very sweet and slightly timid Cocker called Sam :luv: many years ago who was a terrible traveller when he was young. Even a short drive of 5 minutes or so made him dribble and any longer than that and he'd be sick and utterly miserable. I'm not sure if it was motion sickness making him anxious or anxiety making him motion sick, but it was horrible for him.
Then I started giving him Rescue Remedy, 4 drops directly on to his tongue about 30 minutes before a car journey and it worked like a miracle. It broke the cycle of anxiety and vomiting and within a very short time I was able to stop using it and he was fine even on long journeys.

Natural stuff to try:
Ginger
Rescue Remedy
DAP Spray/Collar
Homeopathic travel sickness tablets
Medication:
Cerenia (only with prescription from vets)
Stugeron (from pharmacy) - check with your vet first
I have tried all the natural stuff with both my spaniels, but unfortunately none of that worked for them. I then used Cerenia, which is great, but very expensive (I often use it on a weekly basis). I now use Stugeron for them which works well and makes most journeys sickness-free. :D

Cocculus tablets from the health food shop. Years ago we had a yorkie who was terribly car sick - her record was 25 vomits in 30 miles! She got so good that she would vomit into a bag if you held it out for her - but the downside was she was obviously distressed and got dehydrated....... We started her on cocculus tablets and it was like a miracle! For her size, we used to give her a few tablets and gradually reduced the dose. Eventually, she didn't need them any more and was fine in the car!
Well worth a try in my opinion!

When Harry came at 8 months I was warned he always got car sick - and sure enough he was :020: every journey, and he used to huddle and drool and looked so miserable, but we just stuck with it and put him in the car every day for the first couple of weeks to go for a walk and gradually the sickness stopped, then he just sat and drooled, then he sat hunched, it was so sad to see, but after the first month he was never car sick again and travels well over short distances up to about and hour or max 2 hours at a time. If we are going on a longer journey eg on holiday I know he gets a bit miserable so we give him a Sturgeron travel sickness tablet before we leave and he is fine.
Good luck with Lily I am sure she will soon get used to it.
