Title: So ANGRY and upset :-(
Post by: maddy74 on September 30, 2012, 04:23:03 PM
We took Willow out for what we thought would be a nice country walk today local to where we live, she was off lead and we saw two dogs approaching we didnt know that were off lead to so OH popped her back on the lead. There was no sign of the owner(s) anywhere in sight.

After watching from a distance and still no sign of the owners they came bounding over (both of them were huge) one just sniffed Willow but the other didnt look too friendly on approach. It started snarling at Willow straight away and then started hurting her, his teeth were showing and it was really scary, she was really yelping and tried to get away. OH then lifted Willow and the dog continued to be aggressive. The owners then appeared albeit in the distance to which OH shouted for them to get their dogs on the lead, they did this as if in slow motion and the owner of the one that had gone for Willow struggled to get her dog on the lead.

They then stood behind the hedge whilst we passed, they said nothing. OH said to them they they should keep their dogs on a lead if they are aggressive and he told them that the dog had gone for ours. She didnt respond. I then became really angry and came out with a few choice words. (in fact I've never said so many swear words in one sentence) Again no response and not even a 'sorry' or to ask if my dog was okay.  :'(

Some people  >:D >:D >:D >:D

Luckily on closer inspection Willows side was a little red where the dogs teeth had been but nothing else.... my poor baby... Im still so angry and upset. I think my poor Willow had a lucky escape. Also I'm glad Willow has the personality where she seemed to just shake it off once it had happened and carried on enjoying her walk....

Thanks for reading..... rant over....

Oh Maddy
 :bigarmhug:

I am angry and upset too! How awful, thank goodness your OH was able to lift Willow out of harms way.

I hope the owners were suitably embarrassed after the deserved dressing down you gave them.
I am so sorry this has happened, but glad Willow seems to be ok.

Have a large glass of wine
love from all of us xxx

Poor Willow I'm so glad she's ok xx

I usually find that dogs like this have totally ignorant owners who can't respond because it would just be a feeble excuse for their rubbish dog ownership  >:D

Maddy, it must have been terrifying for you and thank Dog Darren was with you.  It also helped that you were so vigilant in recognising the aggression in the dog.  Thank Heaven Willow has come out relatively unscathed.  Try and put it behind you now and be thankful she isn't badly hurt.  From the sounds of it, she will forget it quickly - hope so.  And as for choice words, I don't blame you.   :luv: XXX

Poor Willow, and poor you. It is just not acceptable, agree totally about rubbish dog ownership where they take NO responsibilty for their own dogs.
Thankfully your OH was with you, could  have been so much worse if you were on your own >:(

Thanks for your comments.

I'm already over anxious and paranoid where Willow is concerned anyways, that just made it worse  :'( but we are just thankful she wasnt badly hurt. My mums dog was once attacked by two dogs but she wasnt quite so lucky and ended up having emergency surgery and isnt good with a lot of other dogs now, she is still frightened.

I did take some nice photos on the walk that I will post later. I think I'm more upset about the situation than Willow and OH as they are both flat out catching zzzZZZZ's on the other sofa whilst I type this.  :005: :005:

Wanted to add about half an hour after it happened OH said to me out of the blue, "Well on a positive note at least it gives you something to write about on COL later"  Only my OH could pass a blooming comment like that....  >:D >:D

Poor Willow and poor you. This is something we all dread, I'm sure. I hope she is none the worse for her ordeal.

couldn't agree more  >:D

I hope that Willow remains unaffected by the attack. Hazel was attacked by a staffie cross back in the summer; unfortunately for her its had a lasting effect, which I'm trying to help her with  :-\

Glad you are all okay, nothing makes me more angry than seeing a dog being bullied and attacked by another dog!  >:D especially when the owners seem totally oblivious the their animal's behaviour   >:(

Poor Willow and poor you! It's so scary when your dog is attacked, especially when the dogs's owners are nowhere in sight. So glad Willow is okay.

Thank you for all your kind comments.

We saw another doggy on the walk after and she seemed fine with it, im guessing that will mean she will be okay with other dogs, may be not.  :-\

KellyT when you say Hazels attack had a lasting effect you mean she is now afraid of other dogs, was this straight away? Poor Hazel.  :'(

:bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: for you and Willow, I hope you've all recovered from the incident x

It is so scary, we all hate to see our doglets hurt or scared both of mine have been attacked without provocation. Luckily they weren't badly hurt and have been fine since - the first owner apologised profusely and was genuinely upset his dog bit Charlie. The 2nd time with Dexter a dog charged out of his garden and went for him, poor little man was screaming his head off and trying to get behind my legs and I got an ear bashing from the owner as apparently "what did I expect walking past her dogs territory", to which my response was "excuse me but you live on a public footpath to a park which is frequented by dogs and you left your gate open", there may have been a few sweary words thrown in too  >:D

Gosh thats terrible, poor Willow  :'(

I am sure would have reacted the same as you and used probably many of the same words as you. I just can't understand why people would allow aggressive dogs to roam around feely, not caring if they go for other dogs. I am just so glad that it had a good outcome and I hope that although they may not have appeared to care, I hope they got home and thought about what their dogs could have done.  >:D

KellyT when you say Hazels attack had a lasting effect you mean she is now afraid of other dogs, was this straight away? Poor Hazel.  :'(

She now tends to approach other dogs (particularly black dogs) all 'puffed' up with her heckles, standing on her tippy toes - trying to look 'big' in my opinion.  She also does a growly bark.  It's almost like she's trying scare them away before they come close.  However she's obviously scared because if they come towards her she turns, tucks her tail between her legs and does a half circle back to me, if she looks again and the other dog is still coming she comes back to me again. If the dog looks like it might be going away she gets 'brave' again and wuffs ...

Not with all dogs, particulary black dogs, or dogs that are bigger than she is  :embarassed:

Thanks for your comments. Thanks KellyT, poor Hazel. We didnt see any other dogs whilst out on her walk this morning and tonight OH walked her and said she was okay with one other dog that he saw but she knows anyway.

Well whilst out today Willow has been fine with the doggies she knows  ;) but this mornings walk consisted of a blooming boxer I didnt recognise come bounding up to her, she looked petrified and her tail went between her legs and she looked at me as if to say 'help'  :'( I was mega anxious too so im guessing this didnt help...

What should I do now, give her as many positive experiences around dogs she does know until her fear passes?

We know our Algy is not as good with some other dogs as he might be, so he is kept on an extending lead, Biggles who thinks he is a teddy bear, is the first one to run if lips are raised at him, Bertie is on an extending lead, as he is still very young and at the stage where he is baggable (ie easily popped into a large bag, hidden and taken)! People who do not watch what their dogs are doing are likely to end up with dead dogs, do they know who or what is in the field, on the track, coming down the road?

She was on her extendable lead when the boxer approached yesterday. Im perhaps worrying too much!!

But the owner of the boxer should have seen what was going on and responded!
