Not sure whether this is in the right section! Feel free to move me!
During the night - usually around 3am Dexter pulls his fur off his legs, the feathering part and chews it >:( the noise of him pulling it off usually wakes me up so I then have to try and prize the fur out of his mouth but usually he manages to swallow it before I get chance.
He has always done this to some extent but now he is getting big boy feathering it seems worse!
Is there anything I can do to deter him. I don't want him becoming poorly from swallowing fur! :'(
Does anybody elses cocker do this?

Not something I have personally heard of, or experienced. Have you asked your vet for his opinion? maybe worth a mention.

I agree.
I wonder if the long hair just irritates him or if he has some allergy there?
How long has it happened for? I was wondering if it could be fleas but then I imagine it would be all over him...poor sexy dexy!

Ozzy also nibbles at the hair on his legs a lot, doesn't actually pull it off though - I wondered if he has itchy skin, or if it's just because he's such a fluff ball! He does the same to the fluff on my slippers if he can get hold of them! I'll also be interested in the replies.

Sorry to hear this is still happening Nic :bigarmhug:
When i was little our family dog had terrible skin allergies and she would pull her hair off but on her tummy area rather than her legs. Have you spoken to the vet?

We are at the vets on Friday so will mention it then! He has sort of always done it. Well, since he started getting feathering on his legs! I just always thought it was because he was bored during the night and wanted something to occupy himself! He pulls at ribbons and furry toys the same way >:(
I'll see what they say on Friday!

Henry nibbles on his legs too, but never pulls off the hair. He particularly likes to nibble at his dew claws. I imagine he'll be a hair-puller-offer when he's older.

Hopefully, when all the puppy fluff has gone they might stop! Just worried in case he's itchy all the time and I need to do something about it - there is no sign of any skin problem - not that it's easy to see any skin under all that fluff!!!
