Title: Chewing....
Post by: jobartlett on October 16, 2012, 11:51:10 AM
Sorry to bombard you with all these questions - Enzo, as some of you know, has been home for 2 weeks and is 3 months old today.

We've been very lucky in that he he's not chewed any of the furniture - however he is going through chew toys like they are going out of fashion.

We want to work him so have been advised that we need to give him soft toys so that he has a soft mouth BUT he's ripping the soft toys apart withing hours/days of having them home.  I think we need to take out shares in Pets At Home!

Does anyone have any advise on what, if anything, we're doing wrong or any great ideas to help.  I know he will chew esp with baby teeth and new teeth coming through I just wasn't expecting it to be at pets at home once a week.

Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Jo & Jon

I gave Rosie small plastic bottles with top and ring removed, and toilet and kitchen towel rolls. She also likde the dosing balls you get with liquid soap powder. She is now 8 months and still loves them....

thank you - will try that.  I know currently he's pearcing most plastic things we give him - I'm assuming it's fine for them to punchure them but not rip them?

I tried him with an ice cube last night and he played with that for a little while......but got bored of that.  I also got him a harder more substantial toy from pets at home (not as hard as a kong) and he's practically gone through that in a few hours.

Go to your local charity or thrift shop, buy soft toys for a few pence each, remove anything you think might be unsuitable - eyes or long hair etc (I'm thinking My Little Pony here - we bought a pink plush one for Ozzy at the charity shop, and cut off the mane and tail - it now looks like My Little Hippo  :005:)  And then let him rip it to shreds - you won't mind so much if you've only spent a few pence, and they are easily replaced.

Have you tried the hard plastic kets or rings... great for teething and (almost, but not for Minnie) indestructible for Dennis

I have the same issue with Willow, my 17 week old worker... she has gone through skirting boards, electric heater cables  >:D >:D and a lot of her big sister, Poppy's toys... I am running short of ideas...  >:( I have tried the bottle but she went through it and started eating the plastic!  >:D Pets at Home is my 2nd home too...
