Wondered if anyone had any advice on giving ear drops to my wriggly 6 month cocker Millie.
My old cocker was so good with her ears (even let the vet remove a grass seed with a long pair of tweezers without anaesthetic) but Millie is the complete opposite.
I have tried distracting her with high value treats, moving on to a kong with pate in it, before finally just trying to hold her down and do it quickly, but she is a complete wriggly nightmare. She gets upset, we get upset - any tips very gratefully received.

Have you tried a tube of cheese? Last night I managed to remove a big mat from under Toby's leg while OH held a tube of cheese for him to lick. It was impossible for me to do it otherwise. We don't give him much, just squeeze a little then let him keep licking. You can quickly put the drops in while puppy is focused on the yummy cheese.

Failing that, try wrapping her tightly in a large towel - one of you holds her tight, while the other administers the drops - you'll still have to be quick, but sometimes being wrapped up tight calms them. Good luck :005:

Recipe for a cocker puppy needing ear drops :shades: :luv: :005:
Take 2 people & 1 Pupster
Put Pupster on table/ironing board
1 needs to distract with a yummy treat (as Neon said) whilst the other (determined) person adminsters the ear drops
The faster the better before she notice's :005:
Good luck :-*
Sorry i know a bit 'tongue in cheek' but it does work :shades: :D

Thanks very much - will try cheese tube (have one left over from Firework night - luckily not needed) :D. Have tried the towel trick (which at least stops her scratching us when she wriggles) but will give it another go tonight as prescribed by Nina tonight!

Just to say thank you - the cheese tube worked a treat! She was in heaven licking the cheese and barely even noticed the eardrops! :003:

This is why COL is such a fantastic site. You get so many hints and tips. :D
The only downside is that it is very addictive and it makes you spend lots of money on cocker related products! ;) :005:

Yes, well done. The old cheese tube works wonders, that's for sure!

Try using the cheese tube when you are not giving ear drops . An eager dog for treats/drops .

I did something like this in stages - rather than doing it all at once I would build it up using treats - I also used to sit them in corner of sofa as well so they couldn't go far.
