Title: Tuna cake
Post by: KellyT on February 19, 2012, 09:08:47 AM
Hi,

I made some tuna cake / bread this morning for the girls... thought I'd share the 'recipe' I used as it was quite easy and quick...

1 can of tuna in oil
1 egg
2 table spoonfuls of self raising flour
1 table spoon of cream cheese (optional)
pinch of mixed herbs or garlic powder

add all together and mix up until you have a bread like dough (add additional flour if required).  spread/roll out onto a baking tray (I just pushed it around with my fingers / palm)

Bake in oven for 15 minutes at gas mark 7 - turn out to cool.

The original recipe said microwave for 4 minutes.. I did this with the first batch but it didn't seem right so I shoved it in the oven for 10 minutes.

Girls love it, though it is a bit stinky, especially when cooking  :lol2:

I make this too and mine love it. It works equally well with tinned sardines  ;)

I 'cook' it in the micro, I don't 'do' baking  :005:

I made the microwave recipe from willows kitchen site. Very pungent when cooking!! I've cut it into small squares then put in the freezer. I take a small amount out with me and it done wonders for Roxy's recall because she luuuuuuves it  :005: that and my swanky new dog whistle!
Give it a go, so easy and well worth it.

I often use tinned sardines in tomato sauce instead of tuna and I microwave it for about 3 minutes until it's a bit rubbery, then use scissors to cut it into cubes because they work better than a knife because of the chewy texture.
