Spring on the end of a lead
« on: January 04, 2013, 11:29:10 AM »
Decided it was time I started to teach Teal to walk on a lead last night, previously she has only had the slip lead on when going to and from the car and when I need her to stay with me for short amounts of time and she has been fine. The day I took her to the pheasant shoot she spent a lot of time on the slip but she did not pull, I think this was because it was all so new. Our house backs on to a playing field so really she has had very little lead work.

So the new wide collar and new lead were installed on Teal last night and we headed out the front door for her first pavement walk, She was very good no pulling or jumping for all of 2 minutes until we left the front garden then she turned into a spring, bouncing jumping up me, pulling, the whole repertoire of how not to behave on the lead.

We did circles and square bashing for 10 minutes and it didn't get any better, I had an idea this  was going to be a hard one Teal is the strongest willed little angel pup I have ever had  >:D.
I have never had problems teaching heel in the past with any of my dogs except the JR's and normally after 15 minutes start to see an improvement normally by the end of the week it's just about there.

I will carry on for another week to see how we go and if no improvement I think I might just have to learn more about this clicker training.
So be warned you clicker trainers on here you may well be getting lots of questions, I am an old dog and its hard to teach me new tricks  ;)
