scooting bottom
« on: February 03, 2014, 07:45:08 PM »
hi all, my girl has been scooting her bottom along the ground over the last couple of weeks.  she does have allergies but I am feeding her on raw diet which doesn't contain cereals.  I took her to the vet who checked her anal glands, a bit full but not bad.  she has also been wormed.  what else could cause this. cheers.

The obvious reasons are anal glands, worms or habit  :dunno: it would be worth monitoring her for a couple of weeks - if she continues have her checked again, it may be that her glands are starting to stretch - hope not.

Does she ever pick up "stuff" on her walks etc??  Ours eats twigs etc, i am just thinking that it might be something which has scratched her anal passage, and that it why it is itchy?  -Otherwise, it could be her stools being hard perhaps and also scratching on the way out?

Coco has never had anal gland problems and I worm her regularly but she does sometimes drag her bum along the ground.  If she has done a bit of a runny poo she does it and sometimes for no apparent reason :dunno:  Maybe just an itchy bot  :005:  I think she also likes the look of horror on my face when she does it when I am talking to someone - she definitely likes to have an audience  >:( :lol2:

Blue sometimes rubs his bottom on the floor if he's had a bit of a runny poo, we always say he's just cleaning things up  :005:  other times he does it for no reason at all  :dunno: so Coco isn't  the only one that does it  ;)

Blue is also doing the scooty botty dance over the last couple of days. I'm putting it down to all the rubbish he keeps eating at the moment - tissues being a favourite - I try to stop him but I'm not always quick enough  >:D

We usually have some baby wipes to help with the clean up  :005: Hand wipes are very useful as well. :D

Maddie does this and as her glands are not full I asked her very helpful breeder. She said it could be that bits of poo get left just inside the opening to the anus and that irritates her. Using a plastic glove and baby wipe I gently insert my little finger and gently wipe the inside, then apply Sudacrem. It does seem to do the trick. Sometimes I have to do it daily sometimes she can go a week. Suppose it depends on what she has been eating!

I had to do the same when Blue had an infection, disposable gloves and Sudacrem, easy when you get used to it  :005:

Jamie does the same after a runny poo. I always thought it must have stung or irritates his poor bottom!
