Puppy food help
« on: March 07, 2014, 05:39:35 PM »
Jasper has been on Bakers complete puppy from when he stopped feeding from his mom. I have read that there is a lot of additives in this now and can cause skin problems. He also has very runny poo. Which would be the best to change him on to? Ive looked at the puppy food guide website and the most rated are not available where i live. Anyone help please?

Hello and welcome to COL

Bakers is not one of the most preferred puppy foods, as you say it has lots of additives and colourings which are not particularly helpful to puppy tums and digestion.

Amongst the  favoured ones with COL members for their quality are:

Dry foods: Burns Puppy, Eden (puppy I Imagine), Barking Heads, etc.,

Wet foods: Naturediet, Wainwrights

There are also complete RAW foods, which I am sure somebody who uses them can help you with.

Here is a website that explains quite well what is in each most of the more popular brands & gives ratings for each one

http://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/

Hope this helps with your choice
Remembering Smudge 23/11/2006 - 3/8/2013, Branston 30/8/14 - 28/10/22, and Minstrel 24/6/13 - 13/8/24 all now at the Bridge.

Eden Holistic is  suitable for puppies of five weeks up to senior dogs.  I have just started Jamie and Henry on Eden.  Jamie was previously on Orijen Puppy.

I use applaws (Nero is only 10weeks) mixed with naturediet as he for fussy - partly my fault as I have him some roast beef and funnily enough he refused dry kibble after that! Applaws seem to use quality ingredients so happy with them

I got Riley at 14 weeks and he was on very poor cheap food for working dogs, I initially started him on James Wellbeloved as I have always fed my older lab on this, but it really didn't suit Riley and neither did Skinners.  He is now on Arden Grange puppy, which is about £48 for the 15kg bag and his coat shines like glass, and he has firm poo and no wind.  It is a case of trial and error to find what suits your dog, and don't change too often.
