Pyoderma/pseudomonas
« on: October 05, 2014, 02:47:47 PM »
I joined the forum becuase I have been worried about our 8 year old male cocker. He is a dark brown working cocker so almost springer size and always very healthy. We noticed that he was not well some months ago but the main physical symptom came out was that his nose became very dry, crusty, swollen and split in one place. Outcome, according to the vet (but not our usual vet) that he had an infection in his mouth called pyoderma affecting his lips. Gums and teeth are fine. Anyhow, he has just finished his second course of antibiotics but I wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem. I am not convinced that he is well yet because his mood is still low and before we take him bak to our veterinary practice, I would like experienced cocker owners opinions. Many thanks. My name is Jo

I have to say, I have started looking at messages on the forum and did giggle at some. Re my previous message about pyoderma in our 8 year old cocker, I would like to ask, "when do they stop stealing your socks and shoes and hiding them under the bush in the garden"?

Hello Jo and welcome to COL :D

I've moved your post to the Health board as that's the main subject.

Pseudomonas has been discussed by members on here several times over the years, although more often as the cause of ear problems than lip fold problems. But I had a look at a couple of old threads and came across this one which may be helpful http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=67813.msg993396#msg993396. It can be a very difficult problem to resolve, as you'll see in this thread, but hopefully one of the antibiotics that are used to treat pseudomonas will do the trick very soon.

Welcome to the forum Jo, I hope your pups health problems are solved soon and he is back to his usual happy self.
When do they stop hiding socks in the garden? If they are not "hiding" them internally count yourself ahead  :005:
