The prices some vets charge

          Hi,for years I have always taken my dogs to the same vets.It was a small independent practice and the main man and owner was a very experienced and well respected man with a no frills down to earth manner.The prices he charged were reasonable as well I thought.For example Cloe has suffered on and off with ear infections,they cleared up for a few years but recently have flared up again.
          Anyway,a typical visit to the vets for her ears would go like ear examination,seem a bit nasty,always one worse than other,prescribe ear drops,Otomax,or something else and told to come back in seven days,after seven days,they were usually nearly better and just put drops in for a few more days or sometimes he would try another type of drops.

      The practice has now been sold to  Medivet and the old vet retired so went along today with Cloe for her ears.

Gosh almost like my dentist since it became part of national company

I would look around, of ask people when you are out and about walking etc.

This happened to my olds vets.  I asked several people two both breeders mentioned same vet two ladys in small rural practice.

do you have a pets at home near you?  Some of the bigger stores have a vets 4 pets instore, they were a lot cheaper than my usual vet for having my two pups castrated

Had a similar experience with Medivet too, as my fiesty biting scratching cat Reggie, brother Ronnie, needed attention, due to eating problems. Cost £400  (Can't remember exactly) for an emergency weekend stay. Announced that all was OK when I collected him.

Two days later back to square one.   .
Subsequently took him to a recommended independent vet who had set up a little way away.  She was great and was the only one to properly examine cat, revealing he had a lump in his stomach. Unfortunately not curable and eventually pts because he was suffering so much.

Wont ever go to Medivet again....

When one of my cats returned home limping, I took him to my vet to have him examined. She took under five minutes to diagnose the problem and treat it with a little antiseptic. Apparently, he had been fighting and the other cat had left a claw in his leg. Silly, I know, because I could just as easily taken a pair of tweezers and removed it in two seconds myself. Anyway, I went to pay at reception as was handed a bill for £90!!! I asked to see the vet and complained that this was so expensive for the treatment given. She countered, that the consultation had taken almost 15 minutes, to which I replied that over 10 minutes of this was taken up with her trying to sell me £700's worth of dental treatment for both my cats, even though she hadn't examined my other cat! Anyway, I was offered a 10% discount. I dug my heels in and asked to speak with the senior vet, who quickly read what had happened, apologised and as I had two cats and two dogs registered with the firm, he'd wave the bill completely. I thanked him and took my business elsewhere. I don't mind paying a fair price for good care of my furries, but this was a step too far.

It is about time they exposed these vets and there prices.....I was told if they know you have insurance they put the £ on.

The latest cash extracting wheeze my vet has come up with.......................''your dog has an infection in both ears, we caught it just in time, I therefore prescribe Canaural and you must have 1 bottle for each ear'' (and we must double the 'tinternet price so that you also feel his pain!)

I paid up and left cursing why I didn't train as a Vet instead of a Civil Engineer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Forgot to say, the young (newly qualified vet) had that look on her face as if to say '' good luck persuading, cajoling, wrestling, or otherwise getting this stuff in his ear-hole and I have doubled your juggling act by giving you a 'left' and 'right' bottle!!!!!!!!
