My cousin had an entire bitch and a neutered boy.  She was horrified when he actually "did the deed" as her poor girl was absolutely terrified and in obvious pain and distress.  He was having a fine old time, but she could have been seriously injured.  Luckily my cousin was there and managed to grab her - otherwise she could have just yanked herself away from him.  I would worry about things like that happening to be honest in case she got damaged trying to pull him out of her?
Hope it all works out.

Precisely.  Exactly why they shouldn't be able "to get on with it"  :-\

You will have to excuse my ignorance when it comes to dogs mating. I had no idea that dogs could become 'locked' and also no idea that a neutered dog would even be interested.

Thankfully things calmed down last night and Murphy has shown no more interest today. I will keep them separated if they start again.

I would recommend obtaining a copy of The Book of the Bitch - its not just Millie to consider but once Murphy knows what its all about  ;) irrespective of being neutered if may affect his behaviour around other dogs and definitely bitches  :shades: and possibly result in him being injured if he attempts and Milie is having none if it

Its not easy having two cockers

Thanks Pearly, I will check the book out.

It's weird that Murphy only showing an interest after Millies trip to the groomers and he hasn't even had a sniff or showed any interest today.

The plan is to have Millie spayed in 3 months time so hopefully we won't have to worry about this sort of thing any more.

You're spot on though, it's not easy with 2 cockers. Never a dull moment.

Well, you learn something every day. I've had five bitches, three of whom were spayed due to,pyometra. I've had five male dogs, only one of which was neutered, my rescue cocker, who was quite a nasty dog. I had absolutely no idea that a neutered male could do the deed, I assumed that once they had the snip they lost the desire and the capability. None of my entire boys were oversexed, and I never had any bother unless someone walked an in season bitch near us (we live in a quiet place, the sort of place where bitches in season get walked cos it's away from most other people.

Dylan is ten months old now, and I guess I have to make a decision about neutering or not. My vet thinks it,s best to avoid certain cancers, and running off after a bitch, but to be honest, if they can still be sexually stimulated, I wonder if it,s worth it. Food for thought, a very interesting topic, thanks for raising it.

I doubt you are alone in the belief that once male dogs had been 'done' they would have no further interest in a bitch, on heat or otherwise, you would think the interest would go, after a certain time - along with the testicles  ;)

Have you thought about using bitch spray at all? I have a 5 and a half year old golden retriever who has season problems and usually comes in to season every 2months. They are never full seasons but she can't be spayed because there is so much risk of it going wrong. I use bitch spray when I walk her and also if her and my year old cocker spaniel bitch who is spayed start getting a bit grumpy with eachother and it works really well. It does smell really bad so do it outside rather than in otherwise you will spend the next hour feel ill :D

Thankfully, and I really mean thankfully, the human snip does not involve testicle removal  :o :o

What a relief for the human males!! See you learn something new every day, it is not really a subject I know a lot about, be it dogs or men, I only knew about the dog op after googling it.... :005:

After 3 weeks of boring boring lead walks, Millie was finally let loose today. And boy did she enjoy it.

Unfortunately Murphys interest returned with a vengeance and with nobody able to look after him for a week we had to keep the pair of them separated for 4 days.

Millie is now pencilled in for spaying in July so we won't have to worry about a reoccurrence again.
