Is Castor Oil safe.
« on: August 30, 2024, 06:06:07 PM »
Our Lulu is 14 and has lots of lumps and bumps, the one that is causing problems is the one on her head because she keeps catching it when she scratches her ear and then it pours with blood. Our vet says she does not want to operate because of Lulu's age and problems with her lungs.  Someone suggested that I put castor oil on the lump, has anyone used castor oil on their dog, and is it a special sort of oil or ordinary castor oil?.............Thanks

Hello and welcome to COL, sadly cannot help with your question, but hopefully someone else will be more knowledgeable. Silly question from me, but have you asked your vet? she may know.

This may help you https://www.google.com/search?q=castor%20oil&slpassthru=1

Even though it’s becoming a trendy ‘natural’ treatment for humans I wouldn’t use it at all . It’s not medically approved, and the plant itself has poisonous seeds.  Bathing a lump with 10% saline (salt) solution will reduce swelling and be an antiseptic  . Your vet should advise you .  Wearing a soft cushion style collar used like the cone buster ones for a few days may stop the urge to scratch it .
