Dem Bones Dem Bones?
« on: February 17, 2006, 12:08:17 AM »
Ok, Just need to know your thoughts on types of bones which would be suited to a little pup. Jazz is 14 wks and loves to chew. Would love to head down butchers on  a Saturday, but want to know the best bone (if any) to ask for.

Thanks, and watch this space for Jazz pics soon.

Lovin COL!

Mine would eat all sorts of bones but not beef - not just because of the weight bearing issue, but generally cows are older (and heavier) than other animals when they are slaughtered so therefore their bones are denser.

I'd give our Bailey Lamb bones But he doesn't like them !! So he gets chicken wings but thats a meal not recreational chewing, he loves to chew on the pressed raw hide bone things from the pet shop thou..

I'm not sure if 14 weeks might be a bit young for bones? My pup is five months old and I haven't given him any yet - even though he would love one, greedy guts that he is!

I'd like to know if I can give him bones now too (raw of course) his big teeth are just through now but his back teeth are still his baby ones (must learn correct names for teeth!)  <_<

I give Spice (5 months) chicken wings but cut them into smaller pieces and bash them a bit before she has them - she hstill has to crunch but manages well and absolutely loves them (in fact it is the only she does chew as she just seems to hoover puppy food!

Rosie & 4 naughty cockers plus one!

All my pups have had bones from 8 wks on.
I would ask for smaller raw bones, explain they are for a pup - so maybe lamb leg bones ?

Thank you everyone. Some good ideas to bear in mind. I find that if I can get Jazz on a nice juicy bone his attention will stray from my nice juicy fingers!!!

Thanks again
