When are your puppies allowed upstairs?
« on: January 31, 2007, 01:21:00 PM »
Hi all,

Bonnie is three months now and just fab!! pretty much house trained - barks when she wants to go out

She hasn't really been upstairs yet - she's had a quick tour a couple of times but that's it. We have a three story house so It's quite a trek to get to the kitchen when she needs the loo... the trouble is we have two lounges as my husband likes to watch completely different programmes to me - so I spend most evenings in my lounge which is on the first floor. This means that Bonnie spends most evenings with O.H downstairs.  Do you think she is ready to start living in the whole house yet? She can't climb down the stairs yet bless her!

It is a really bad idea to let young puppies climb stairs, it can damage their joints.  Jade and Amber (9 months) had just started going up and down a couple of weeks ago, but then we got Archie, so the stairgate has gone back on.  They are not impressed.  :005:  If you want her to use the whole house I would carry her up and down stairs for a good while yet.  ;)

I see no harm in her being with you in your lounge upstairs but just don't let her go up and down the stairs on her own, even if she can (although you say she can't do it yet, wait a few weeks and she'll be like dynamite  :005:).

Misty escapes upstairs at every opportunity (she's 5 months) but waits at the top for me to carry her down, she knows she not allowed up or down on her own bless  :luv:

I'm really wary of the stairs because my Grandparents lost their puppy this way (he had escaped upstairs without my grandad knowing and my gran came in from the shops and in the excitement the little pup fel and broke his neckl), so you've got to be really careful  ;)

PS.  Got your PM, will do a photo sess this week-end  ;)

My dog has been upstairs since we got him on the odd occasion we have forgotten to keep the gate up and in the last 2 months when he has managed this he has jumped on to our bed and piddled on it!! He is now 7 months and feel he is able to climb stairs but how do we stop this peeing from happening or is he banished from our bedrooms for ever!!
