optigen - if dad is clear.....

I know that Tyke's dad is Optigen tested clear.
Does this mean that Tyke doesn't need to be tested or could he still be a carrier? There are opportunities coming up at shows we are going to for testing, so I wonder if he needs to be tested or not.

I have no breeding plans, I'll leave that to my friends, but I just like to be aware and know as much as possible.

I think it will depend on his mum. If she was a carrier, your dog may be a carrier. If you are not going to breed from him it won't  matter. No doubt some one will tell you I'm totally wrong as I'm just guessing at this.

you need both the sire and dam's results - it just doesn't come down the paternal line.

If Tykes mum is a carrier then it is 50/50 whether he is clear or carrier.

For your own peace of mind if you have the opportunity to have him tested, then I would

even if he is a carrier though he will never be affected so it really is only if you planned on breeding him and the dam he bred with was a carrier or affected his pups would be too, otherwise he is safe and will never get the disease.
