fat puppy!
« on: July 22, 2008, 07:54:52 PM »
recently cassies coat has been getting really fluffy, she's like a little afro but i love it, her coat puffs out loads at the sides round her belly and it looks like she is quite tubby and so many people have commented on it - i'm fed up trying to explain she isnt fat. She had her 6 month check up on fri and vet said her weight it fine - 9kilos at almost 6 months about 13 inches in height. I know she isnt fat as i can easily feel her ribs and she has a waist and you should see how skinny she looks.

Final straw came tonight, met two people in the park and they both commented on how cute and chubby she was - does anyone else have this problem?

sorry its more of a rant than anything  :005:

My Nan came round just beofre Eric was clipped and told me he was looking tubby  >:D >:D
I kept telling her was skinny but she didn't believe me until he had been clipped and then she said he looked like a skinned rabbit  ::) I tell you there is no pleasing some people. Eric is 9 months (nearly) and is 11.2kg and 16 inches in height.

Millie is 13yrs old and is now a little over weight. But for years we were always told she was putting weight on and I knew she wasn't. It is just that her fur grows out from the sides and when you cut it they all tell you that shes lost weight.

had this constantly with Maddi.  It done my head in.  Then she got clipped and looked starved in comparison!

Try not to let it bother you, she's just a gorgeous poopie  :luv:

It's the same with Gari, he is very curly and has an afro-like coat that grows out the way! :005: Even OH comments each time he's needing clipped that he looks fat, but the difference when he is clipped is amazing, he shrinks to half the size! :D

We have the same problem with Molly! :005: I don't know how many times people have said "your dog has put on weight"! "She's all her" we explain and try and convince. ::) When she's wet, there's nothing of her, I'm having her clipped tomorrow, a day at the groomers. :luv: She hasn't been done since March so she's looking like a 'barrel on legs'. :lol2:

its so frustrating, when i say theres a skinny puppy underneath all that fur just bursting to get out people look at me like i'm some deluded woman who cant admit she's over fed her dog  :005:

I secretly love her fluffy coat, OH says he cant wait to get her groomed she's must snugglier this way  :luv:

Dont have this problem with Jerry as his fur is quite short.....but I am considering telling people that it is MY fur causing ME to look chubby!  ;)

Seems  common with blacks. Bobby gets called Blobby! His undercoat is out now and I've trimmed his legs as it's warmed up. We're camping so i thinned him out and he looks really dinky now!!

I really think we are going to need to see photos of her in her glorious fluffiness, so we can pass judgement  :005: :005: (or just drool over your gorgeous pup!)

I know exactely how you feel! I also got comments and lots of disapproving looks when Jesse was younger as his puppy coat too used to stick out at the sides (and all over the place really  :005:) and make him look really fat! He wasn't, his weight was always fine and people could never resist checking when I told them by touching him and feel his ribs...  >:( >:D :005:

Now that he has hid adult coat, it is all falling nicely and I never get any comments anymore other than how beautifully groomed he is.  :D

Ive said this before to people i.e. 'ooooooh what a lovely chubby little puppy!!' and Ive never thought it could cause offence!

I just love chunky pups (maybe because I was a fat babby  :005: ) . They always tend to look fatter than they are anyway because they so fluffy so I always took it as a compliment when someone said it about Dill when he was young. I suppose if they said it when he was grown up I might have felt different, but I shall never say it again- I dont want to go around upsetting people!!!  ;)
