Regarding hip score!
« on: August 31, 2009, 08:01:50 PM »
Hi, Has anyone on here received a bad hip score, then had it done again to find that it improved? I had my two done last week and I find it strange that they both received HD C (I am in Sweden). I received the certificate today and I will call the SKK tomorrow, but I am wondering whether their hips are this bad or whether it was the vet being incompetent (he was training, I think). I haven't seen the x-rays, but will ask for them to be sent to me. The parents of both my bitch and dog have A, A and A, B if I recall correctly. Does having HD C rule out any chances of my bithch having puppies?

Looking back....why didn't I stay in the x-ray room and ask to see the x-rays? (probably because I was having a stressful day all round:-(

Thanks!

What are the names of your dogs ?

You have to have a look at cousins, uncles, aunts and so on hipscores to make an opinion. As hip dysplasia is polygenic and environnemental, even if the parents are A, pups can have a bad hipscore.
Cassandre, Julie, Gala, Filibert and Pupuce.

In this country i think you can have a second opinion on the xrays but i dont think that you can have new xrays done. I could be wrong though.

Hi,

Thank you for the replies. I have spoken to SKK, and my dog has HDC and there's nothing I can do about that. I have looked more into his history and his siblings have some bad results:-(. As for my bitch, it is her right hip which is C and the left is A, so I was advised to do it again in 6 months as she is so young(18mnths). So perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel!.

Not sure how the rules are in the  UK. When I get it done again, I will go to a different vet and stay in, plus ask for the x-rays....One can only learn from mistakes.

I will give an update in 6 months.
