gooey eyes again
« on: September 09, 2009, 09:55:53 AM »
hi everyone still need a bit of advice on gooey eyes all my 5 of my cockers have a greyish gloopy discharge in their eyes both their eyes.i ordered some pet alive eye heal which is a herbal thing for healing all kinds of eye conditions like conjuntivitis(has anyone ever heard of pet alive eye heal) and some colloidial silver.ive been cleaning their eyes 3 times a day with these things 1 cotton pad for each of their eyes from inner corners out.would it actually be better if i used some kind of dropper to drop this into their eyes.ive been using it for 3 days now and they are no worse and maybe a little bit better but its still there and now for a day or so ive had to do the pups eyes to.what would it be is it contagious as all the dogs have the same thing or would i be better getting antibiotic drops of the vet.i always try and go down the herbal route which is just as expensive dont  know whether i should carry on with the pet alive eye heal and colloidal silver and give it a few more days.help appreciated :-\

Paddy has dry eye which produces sticky grey mucus and sometimes a film of sticky mucus over his eye but I would be v.surprised if all of your's had it - However, it needs a vet to diagnose using a tear test. I am not sure whether conjunctivitis in dogs is contagious (it can be in humans if caused by an eye infection) - think if it's a persistent problem for all I would seek Vets advice as untreated eye problems can be v.problematic later on.
Could you get one dog checked out and then see what vet thinks the problem is ?

Let me know how you get on - we are frequent visitors to the vets with Paddy either eye problems or ears! Unfortunately both common cocker problems - expensive but not life-threatening thank goodness!
