Gabby's first season has started!!!!!
« on: October 05, 2009, 02:05:47 PM »
I cannot believe that this day has arrived - it only seems 5 minutes since we went to collect her as an 8 week old puppy.  :luv: :luv:

She has not been 'herself' now for a couple of weeks - off her food, sulking around the house and occasional wee wee accidents on the kitchen floor.

This morning I noticed a spot of blood on her bed - her new one which I got from PAH at the weekend.  ::) ::) I have checked her vulva and there is blood around it.

A few questions:

Do I count this as day one of her season?

How long do I keep her away from any male residents in the area?

How long after today can she be spayed?

How long will she 'bleed' for?

Sorry for so many questions but I have never had a bitch in season before - Kiwi our old Weimaraner was spayed before her first season.

Can't help with any of your queries I'm afraid (boy doggy household here!) just wanted to send gentle squishes and hope she isn't feeling too uncomfortable.  Good luck in the coming weeks!

I'd treat it as Day 1. Seasons can vary in length upto 4 weeks (or even longer), also the amount and length of bleeding can vary from bitch to bitch too. Neither Misty or Stevie 'spotted' much at all during their seasons and their seasons generally lasted about 3 weeks. I'd wait 3 months to have her spayed.

This sticky should help ...

As Colin said, I'd treat it as day 1. I followed the advice from the sticky post he gave you the link to. Chloe had to be different though  >:( When I thought the danger period was over, she started bleeding again (a split season, I believe its called) so I had to be really careful with her for well over 6 weeks. Good luck  ;)
