Another season so soon??
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:06:04 AM »
Bit confused with this one. Penny came into season around 21st October and it all seemed to go as normal except it went on for much longer than was expected. She was receptive to Logan's advances from 8 days which is usual for her, rampant by 12 day. Then usually she's bad for about 4-5 days then it all subsides. Logan in that time spends every spare moment he can licking her back, botty, eyes and ears and basically growling at the others to keep away from his chick. Her season behaviour and receptive behaviour however lasted more like 3 weeks so in total her season seemed to be more like 5 weeks long.

Over the last couple of days (so we are now 2 mths from start of her season ) Logan has started to lick her botty again and she began flagging and courting him again. Last night he tried to mount her and her behaviour is that of a girl mid season, flirting, pushing botty in his face, standing, flagging etc except no discharges or swollen bits whatsoever. He is also doing all his usual courting, licking her botty, eyes, ears and a big strip up her back. They behave like two lovelorn teenagers.

Obviously something is making them behave like this but I am unsure.

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour? I have began separating them again at night and during the day when they cannot be observed.

Karen, Penny, Logan, Phoebe and Bronte.

A friend of mine just had this happen with her bitch too. They went ahead and bred her as they had been planning to anyway (a bit soon to tell, just bred her around Christmas)

These bitches may have a cyst on their ovaries (very common in horses and I feel they will discover it is common in dogs) that is making their cycles crazy. They are not harmful otherwise and often clear up on their own, but sometimes they need progesterone meds to help dissolve it and get the cycles back on track.

Thanks, reading that is worrying, hopefully if its anything its just a cyst, but it could be a tumour reading that.  :-\
