Dandruff?
« on: January 03, 2010, 02:48:51 PM »
Hi everyone, I need some more advice!

Ozzy seems to have developed dandruff rather quickly over the last two days.  His coat seems to have lost some of it's shine and he now has white specs all his fur.

We are feeding him PAH own brand dry food, could this be causing the problem or is this just a puppy thing?

Any advice would be great :D

Thanks from russ, emma & ozzy!

Could be the central heating if he has been in a different environment recently, have you changed his food at all?

Maybe the food does not suit him, I'm not sure on the ingrediants but there are excellent foods on the market and PAH probably is not in the top 10.

Mine are feed on JWB with one little girl on Pro Plan and I also use Yumuga on 2 of my cockers it gives their coats a real healthy glossy look. One of mine had a few dry patches some months ago and it cleared very quickly with Yumuga

I would personally look into changing the food  :luv:

Thanks for the advice Bracken  :D

We are going to move him onto James Wellbeloved over the next week and see how he gets on.

We have also stopped giving him the pedigree chum treats that we had for him as they seemed to give him the runs. He is now getting pieces of raw carrot for treats and seems to love it!  Maybe Ozzy is a secret vegetarian?!  ph34r  ;)

I have noticed Lucy has developed dandruff poss since the central heating has been on.  But it may also be that she is coming into her first season? (She a little quieter than usual and has to be coaxed to go for her walks-which she usually enjoys) She's 11mths old now. Anyway, I have ordered some salmon oil for her so am hoping when I start giving it to her her dandruff will disappear and hopefully her black n white coat will improve.  Lucy is fed on Arden Grange. :luv:

My two used to suffer from similar when they were on Burns, it didn't have enough oil in it for what they do and heating in the winter definately makes the problem worse. I did try JWB but my Weim is allergic to it and Arden Grange has too much protien in it it for her and turns her into a hyper rocket. You can add an oil to his food as others have said - Salmon oil is good but I have used even a dash of olive oil. The are fine now and I don't need to suppliment - both fed on Chappie at the moment.

Chops had quite bad dandruff for a while, he's 10. When I bathed him the last couple of times I used t-gel shampoo, and he seems alot better now (although it really stinks, and the smell tends to hang around!)

I wasnt aware you could use t-gel shampoo on them, I have some of that and I like the smell of it :005: Next time Lucy gets bathed I'll think about using it, but I may dilute it first.  :lol2:
