Belles 1st chicken wing!!

I know its taken a long time, she is nearly 11mths but Belle has had her 1st chicken wing , I know lots of you feed them without problems and her breeder swears by them to keep their teeth clean but I have had my reservations, not really sure why? Anyway I bit the bullet and bought a pack yesterday, it took her minutes to devour it, she LOVED it. So to anyone else who is a little wary of feeding raw chicken wings I say 'Go for it...' can't wait till I give her another one and neither can Belle

William was 5 (years) when he had his first chicken wing. He wasn't too sure what to do with it at first and had a good sniff, then some cautious and rather delicate chewing. Nowadays he crunches up them and wolfs them down in no time at all.

Louis has had them from when he was a tiny puppy. They used to take him a while then, but he eats them very, very quickly now.

Penny is ten months now and I  think I will give her a chicken wing as she really loves to chew. Would one a week be a good for her?Glad Belle enjoyed her wing.

i always thought it was bad to feed dogs chicken wings incase the small bones got stuck in their throat? do they eat them uncooked?

Raw bones are fine to be fed to dogs but cooked bones should never be fed as they are friable and can splinter.

I think this thought was stuck in my mind ' never give dogs chicken bones..' but thanks to the general wisdom of this site I found that they are good for the dogs, raw of course it still took me several months to give her one but now she has had her 1st they will be on the menu regulary

Mine love them (including Charlie who is 8 months old), Charlie wasn't too sure what to do with it at the start but soon got to grips

So can they be bought just from supermarkets? Do you buy them in packets? Ive never seen them but interested in getting them for our two. We too have never given Meg any sort of chicken bone, as like some of you we thought we shouldnt, but if raw is fine then i think we will go for it . Thanks xxx

Duggie and Tia had their first chicken wing last week too, and I was the same as you Jo - I knew they were safe, but still had that niggling little worry.

I promised them I would buy some more this week, but when I got to Morrisons, I found a space where they should be  - either lots of Scottish COLers have been shopping there, or the sun is about to start shining and it's BBQ time!

As Fiona says you can get them in morrisons or most supermarkets , we have a v.small supermarket opposite us which has its own on site Butcher and he has just started stocking them, I had a tray of 12 for 2.00 so they are very cheap, give them a try she will love them

I know silly isn't it when you know so many others feed them regulary its just sort of fixed in your brain that dogs and chicken bones don't mix I have frozen the rest of the pack and will defrost one for her for the weekend, how often should they have them ?

Glad Belle enjoyed it. 

Ted loves them too, and a nice chunky one will keep him quiet for ages! 

His breeder gives them to her litters when they're teeny, which made me much less nervous about it, and I've learnt just to not mention it to the vet.

I don't mention it to the vets either (and I work with them! ), most vets are very anti-BARF, as they only get lectures on the prescription food that the reps sell. Quite a few people have asked about raw feeding, and have been told off for even thinking about it, it's such a pity.

I don't mention the Thornits either.

Jo this is exactly how felt, Its always been in my mind not to feed dogs chicken bones but from this site and an article in a trusted doggy mag I got a pack this week and they have had one every night. They love them and they are crunched up in minutes. I will certainly get some more this weekend. 

Emma I found them in the supermarket (Morrisons) in the fresh chicken section next to the chicken breasts and packs of chicken drumsticks. they were a little over a £1 for 7 or 8 of them so quite cheap.
