cataract advice- UPDATED
« on: January 25, 2010, 05:49:01 PM »
Hello...

Took Monty to the Vets for his booster and check up, turns out the tiny little cloud on his eye which he was born with is now a cataract covering his whole eye  :-\ my Vet said he cannot see though the cataract therfore Monty would not have any sight at all   Im really surprised, he is at times clumsy but not noticeably so!! Im going to book an app to see the Eye Specialist at Cambridge, anyone had any experience of cataracts? Does the insurance companies normally cover this, im with Petplan.

Kelly xx

Dylan has recently been diagnosed with cataracts and PRA, he is 8yrs old.   We went to the Royal Vet College in Cambridge and saw David Williams, he was excellent.   Unfortunately their is nothing they can do for Dylan.  Hope you get on all right with your little chap.  Dylan is covered on his insurance and they paid the bill without any problem, and if he needs any further treatment on his eyes he will be covered.  His insurance is with the Kennel Club.

Took Monty to see David today too, nothing they can do with Montys eye :-\ Turns out the retina has detached so would be complicated and small chance of improving his sight!! It doesnt seem to bother him, and I really wouldnt notice he had no sight in this eye so fingers crossed the good one stays like it for many yrs yet  :D Kelly x

Hi there Kellymac, sorry to hear about Montys eye.   They do seem to manage better than us when it come to sight impairment. I think we feel upset about it as I was with Dylan.   Hope he has good sight in the other eye for years to come.
