head tremor
« on: March 24, 2010, 03:02:50 PM »
hi everyone, i am hoping you can give me some advice.

I have a 14 week old puppy who is fine in every way apart from the fact she seems to have a head tremor, she plays like a normal 14 week old puppy would ie a little madam at times but when she is sat quietly she seems to have a slight head tremor and loses her balance slightly, i have got an appointment to see the vet tomorrow,  you may think i am over reacting but my last cocker had epilepsy and died last year.  I have no worries over her breeding as the breeder was 100% in every way.

I have noticed her doing it the last couple of days and when i have thought about it she had her first proper bath on sunday and wondering if it could be from then? Maybe she got water in her ears but she is not rubbing them.

I don't think i would be so concerned if i hadn't had a dog with epilepsy before and deep down i know the odds of her having it are extremely slim and there is no epilepsy in either of her lines.

Am i just over reacting?

I don't think you're over reacting at all - if you have a concern its much better for you and pup to get it looked at.  She may well have some water in her ear thats maybe affecting her balance a little... but thats just me guessing :)

Let the vet take a look tomorrow and see what they say, chances are it will be something easily explainable - either way you can deal with it or stop worrying about it :) I've not had anything similar so can't offer anything practical/explanation wise.  But think you are doing the right thing by getting her looked at.

Fingers crossed its all ok and  :bigarmhug: for you as I can imagine how worried you must be.

Interesting that you posted this. My mum has a 5 year old rescue cocker that does this.  She is normal all the time except occasionally she has this tremor where her head shakes and you can't stop it, even by some kind of distraction.

She has had Lucy at the vet who has said its probably something neurological but because it only happens occasionally and it doesn't affect her badly ie she stays concious, eyes stay focussed no dribbling or foaming and its only her head that shakes they have just said to leave it at that.  :-\

I'm not sure I would be happy to stick with that if it was Roxy but then i'm also not sure what else they could do! I'd be interested to hear what your vet thinks

I think taking her to the vet is the right thing to do and not an over reaction. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about and the vet will be able to set your mind at rest.

thanks guys,

i have been watching her like a hawk and the only way i can describe it is as though she is sniffing the air with a little head shake, also i have noticed she has yelped a few times while playing and slightly limped on her fore right leg (only for seconds though) and when i carried her up the stairs just now she yelped so something is not right.  She does seem quiet but i wonder if i am reading to much into things.

These doggies are so precious.
