Running free after an operation
« on: July 28, 2010, 05:25:22 PM »
Our older one had a disc operation on his spine wayyyyyyyyy back in February. We have done exactly what the surgeon told us. Crated after the operation, physio, built up his on lead walks.

He now walks for up to an hour on the lead and in a couple of weeks time he will be allowed after a good walk to be left off the lead for the first time since February.

Anyone else gone through this rehab and how was your dog once back off the lead??? Fingers crossed theres no relapse

(sorry if its in the wrong forum!)

My dog had this op (with complications) last July and suffered nerve pain for about 11 months but luckily that has gone too now and he is back to hill walking etc and is walking the great glen way for nessr this summer-did 22miles one day without any bother  :D I am sure you will have no or minimal problems at this stage down the line when everything should be well fused. Sponge initially needed metacalm at times if he over did it -more because muscles would have been tweeked thro lack of use. All the best-its a long slow game isn't it ? but you have reached the best bit now  :D

9 months post op !
I found swimming helped a lot to build up the muscles in his back legs-he wore a life jacket at first and then progressed to swimming for his beloved frisbee on any sunny day...
