Need to know if you will be given a diet sheet, some food that she is used to, worming info, whether breeder will be at the end of the phone if you have any problems etc. I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of at the moment.

If he/she grills you about your lifestyle and wants to know everything, where puppy will sleep, how long left on own. I'd go for it. If they ask no questions or give you sparse info, I'd walk away.

If I have copied it correctly this sticky is on the Looking for a Puppy Section.  It contains loads of excellent advice.  In addition to eye testing both parents should have been tested for FN,  prcd -PRA and hip scored.  There are other more experienced people on here who can advise you further.

Popsted at the same time as Eve - We walked away from the breeder who did not ask any questions.  Muffin's breeder asked lots of questions, it was a relief when we passed. ;)

I would advise you to make sure you meet the dam & if at all possible the sire.  Ask to see the health test certificates of dam & sire. Don't be shy about asking tons of questions because if they are a good breeder they will be delighted you are showing a genuine interest.  Make sure you are happy with the environment the puppies & mum are living in.  Expect the breeder to ask you lots of questions on your lifestyle i.e many breeders expect someone to be at home the majority of the time, especially with a puppy, will you train/socialise him/her from an early age? what sort of life can you give a dog? etc, etc...  As Eve said if the breeder isn't interested in grilling you then walk away.  ;)  Also, does the breeder give a lifetime of backup with any problems or would they take the puppy (god forbid) back for any reason.  :-\

Wishing you good luck & let us know how it goes.

It's worth bearing in mind though that a lot of good breeders travel to find the best stud dog for their bitch so the sire could live quite some distance away. They should still be able to tell you about the dog and why they chose him and show health test results etc. though.

I would hopefully have thought that a lot of the grilling would have been done beforehand on the telephone before even being asked to see puppies - I wouldn't have thought breeders would want to waste their time unless they were quite sure beforehand of what the puppy buyer was like  :-\

Congratulations, glad it went well for you, we'll have puppies the same age as mine will be 8 weeks old that weekend but we aren't collecting him until he is 10 weeks old due to a holiday that was already booked.   What colour is your little girl  :luv:

Congratulations on choosing your puppy  :D

What about another biblical name like Leah?

Or, as Moses was in Egypt for part of his life maybe Cleo(patra)?

Or, as he led the Israelites into "the land of milk and honey", what about Honey?

But the name I always said I would choose for an orange roan girl if ever I were to have one is Summer  :luv:

PS. If you change the title of this thread to something like "help choosing a name for our new puppy" you'll get dozens and dozens of suggestions  :D
