Too late to start?

Been to Sherbourn show today and watched the gundog scurries. Freya was so excited and it really inspired me to get back into training with her. To be honest we never started  :embarassed: Just as I planned to start training her when she was about 10 months Harvey arrived  :luv: :005: Enough said, we never got to start.
I think my biggest challenge will be training Freya to return to hand. At the moment i'm lucky if one in five balls gets flung at my feet  :005: Have looked back through some threads and started to look at some videos on youtube and can't wait to get started. Just wondered if i'd made my job a lot harder by waiting until shes nearly two before we start  :huh: :-\

I agree with eve. Although you may have some bad habits you,ll need to train her out of. Which isn't a problem providing the ppl around you stick to the new rules.

My dad always let's dexter get away with throwing the ball at him rather than putting it in his hand. I just about get him out the habit and then I'll have to vist my parents for something.  :005: I've tried explaining and he says I'm being fussy  >:( but my parents are providing free dog sitting so I can't complain too much.

Clover who I taught correctly from the beginning always delivers to everyone's hand  :luv: but I'd learnt a lot of lessons by the time I got her and we got things right from the outset.

Thanks for your replys guys. I have found a video and read a previous post about back chaining to teach the retrieve which is the approach I plan to take when my dummy arrives. Do you think this is a good idea considering she has a minimal hit or miss retrieve with a ball already? She is only ever left with mum for a day once every couple of months so luckily it will only ever be me training her
