Looking for grown up Cocker
« on: May 17, 2012, 07:07:10 PM »
We lost our 15yr old spaniel 7yrs ago and are now looking for a new grown up Cocker to join our family. Its been over 20yrs since she was a young pup and the breed has changed hugely. We would like a simular looking dog to Molly (see my profile photo) but we are willing to consider different colours and sex. We need a dog to live with Billy our 7yr old Border Terrier, cats and backyard Chickens (I can provide training to get along with the gang!) Our new dog must be friendly with other dogs and like kids, laid back in the house a bonus. They will enjoy many camping trips away at the beach and we live surrounded by open farmland, and will have plenty of walks in the woods and countryside. We are a stones throw from the Somerset levels and I am getting into canoeing with the family, so plenty of water about for swimming!! Our garden is walled and totally secure. We are in no rush and would rather wait for the right personality to come along. We are not expecting to find a clone of our dear Molly, but are really hoping to find that special spaniel to join us.

Yes have been looking...just thought this place would be good too! Someone will turn up soon, only started looking this week. They do vary so much. Health and temperament of the dog is also important, hoping to find one where owners circumstances have changed, rather than the dog having issues. I have rescued most of our pets, our last dog (lived till she was13yrs, Border Terrier) had lots of fear aggression issues with other dogs and we spent lots of time and energy trying to resolve them. Our dear spaniel was so good with other dogs. Rescues often have fearful spaniels via puppy farms, etc so I am going to be cautious this time...

Keep on looking - rescue cockers are often posted on here and many of them are not ex puppy farm dogs.  ;)  There seem to be more cases of dogs being rehomed following marriage break ups etc so no fault of the dog  :'(

Sounds like you have a great life to offer a cocker.  I hope you find the perfect companion for your family soon  :D

Nessr has several young adult working cockers looking for active homes at the moment. Please don't be put off by the fact that they are based in the north of England, they've rehomed dogs to Dorset and Cornwall in the last few months!

If you go to www.nessr.net and then go into the forum and click on the section 'dogs looking for homes' their individual profiles are listed there.

Sadly there are dogs arriving on an almost daily basis, so even if the right dog for you isn't there at the moment its a good idea to keep checking.

Hope there's four muddy paws in your home again soon ;)
Heather, Buddy, Archie, Fizzy, Bruno and Amber!
