keyhole spay
« on: November 12, 2012, 04:22:17 PM »
Gt in touch with vet today & they don't have equipment to do it- do other people go to other practises to have it done?
I'd prefer it over a tradition spay, I'm assuming another vet would be fine doing it?  :dunno:

I'd assume so - you probably just need to ring around vets and ask.  Probably always best to check with your vet that's it's ok to go to another for the spaying as you'd like the keyhole.  But that's just politeness, you are perfectly entitled to go to whichever vet you want.  Good luck.

You would need to ask your vet for a referral to a practice that has the equipment to spay via keyhole surgery  :shades:
I would also do a bit of research beforehand to find out which vets can do it, so you already have the details to hand along with your preferred choice
If you are close to Hampshire i could recommend the practice where Nina & Georgia had their's.  :shades:

Just found one in Morley Leeds.  They are going to perform laparoscopic spaying on Gracie for me.  They do it when dogs are five and a half to six months or before first season if necessary.

I am going to Morley on Monday to the the initial examination....then they'll give me a date for the surgery if they consider her suitable.

Telephoned my own vet to ok it.....and he says it is ok to go and that they will send a history to the other vet(not that she has a history yet).

Feeling nervous, but know it has to be done.  We have two entire boys.

Good luck. Hope you find one. Xx

Really?   Do they honestly recover that quickly?

This thread is making me feel more confident.  Friends have been so reassuring too.  It's just my own phobia re anaesthesia and dogs. X

When we went to collect Nina she was fairly bright, had a little nap on the back seat of the car with me, came home wolfed her tea down in a nano second  :005:.  She was slightly more sleepy that evening but absolutely no sign of any discomfort.  The following day it really was if nothing had happened.  :shades: :luv:
Georgia was the same, exc. i would say she was slightly more sleepy that evening.  :shades:
Neither of them seem to bother with the tiny wounds.  I did keep baby gro's on them just in case though.  :shades:
The hardest part was leaving them at the vets & waiting for the call to say the op. was completed.  :013: ;)
The reason i wanted to go via this route was because 2 of my friends that had their girl's spayed via the conventional route had told me how distressed their's became overnight.  :'(
As Nina is an extremely sensitive dog i felt it was the right way to go.  :shades:

Hi everyone

My little girl's going through her first season now as previous posts on forum favoured spaying after at least one season. I'm thinking advantages of a keyhole spay operation would be no scarring and less risk of infection...... are there other benefits :dunno:

There seem to be a good few advantages really.

I was worried about the uterus being left intact, having had Freya experience a pyometra, but the vet assures me that they need the ovaries too in order to get this condition.

Fingers crossed all will be well.  I dread taking her....but as Ninasmum said.....that's the worse part.  Everything else seemed to go really well. X
