I'm on red alert with Florence.  She's just turned 8 months and hasn't had her first season yet.  Living with an entire male cocker we need to be vigilant  :005:  As she has bouts of erratic, unhinged, frantic behaviour I keep putting it down to her being about to come into season but I have now come to the conclusion this is just her 'normal' behaviour  :o

It's really hard to tell we thought too. Rowan is just on her first at 18 months, so we've had 12 anxious and neurotic months watching for every sign, every mood change, her male Cav King Charles friends behaviour - the lot! Vet said not to worry and would do further checks at her next visit. Naturally it came at the worst possible time, in the middle of a family holiday with her wee Cavy pal in close attendance!!!! She started by peeing our bed - she never peed inside never mind our bed. She was only in our bed due to her whining and upset which obviously in hindsight was her season coming. Her vulva is completely different, very swollen and open, her rear 2 teats are very swollen and noticeable and after a spot for the first two days (which like you we were is it, is it not?) it's now full on blood. She's coping great except for missing her walks and vet advised us not to use any knickers/pads as she needs to be able to lick herself clean at all times to avoid infection. Hope none of you guys have to wait til 18 months right enough!

Jinley had her first season the week after her first birthday.  I am on alert now 6 months later because she has started to slow down and male dogs are starting to show interest in her - much to her disgust!!  I am keeping my fingers crossed that she comes into season over the next couple of weeks so that I can plot when the next one is likely to be (although she might be spayed by then - but that is another dilemma!!)

Penny's just started her third season. I was expecting it around now, and I noticed her marking with lots of little wees on walks for the past couple of weeks. Other dogs have been showing an interest in her bits for the past week or so too, and today I noticed blood for the first time. She didn't bleed much in either of her other seasons and Jonny kept her well licked  :005:

I'm also not decided about spaying. We'll see how this one goes...

I called vets for an appointment earlier on and they told me to come in today (if I was concerned). Vet nurse examined Liesl, she is not in season at present but he did advise to come back again for another check next week as she is late.

Am I reading this right that she's only 8 months?  If so, she's definitely not late, 2 of my girls didn't have their first seasons until they were 2 YEARS

I have noticed her weeing alot more as well.

Did Penny have the diawotsits just before as well??  I can remember it happening a few days before she started last time.

No diawotsits, but she's been a bit clingy. That's about the only change I really noticed.

Yes, you're reading it correctly :-)

They said that for her size (9kg) Liesl would be due to start her season at around the 6/7 month mark. They said it's much larger breed dogs who start later at around the 18 month mark!

I'm very much a novice here so I'm gathering all info as I go along, however, I'd be delighted if she didn't start until 2 years!

Thanks very much for the input, Sharon :-)

We've just had a very funny issue with Lizzie, Maggie came into season at the end of Jan and there is usually 2 weeks between them (they are sisters). I was checking Lizzie daily and on 14th feb noticed a streak of blood and a slight swelling. On 20th she was twisting her tail and my boy was very interested, 2 days later she is back to normal, no swelling or anything. She has had 2 normal seasons before so why should this one only last 7 days? Very strange.

Willow was 13 months when she had her fiirst season. Noticed a bit more than usual male interest about a week to 10 days before!!

The first week it was only spotting, hardly any blood or swelling then the week after it was like the flood gates opened and she was so swollen and so much blood!  :-\ This went on for a further 2 weeks. Apart from her being a bit more tired than usual (but not much) and hungrier than usual she handled it really well  :D

After that we had her spayed i dont think I could have coped with a second season as it was so messy and she did not clean herself  :020:

I think Penny was about ten months when she had her first season. Her breeder said to expect it any time after about eight months. She's on the small side (10kg). So far so good, but no training class for us tomorrow, obviously  >:(

I had very similar with tootsie ...I think it was a false start as her first season followed just a few weeks later, she had me baffled for sure.
