Dennis is still an entire male and when we were on our walk, yesterday, we met a lady I had introduced to the cocker breed about 5 years ago.

She has a friend who has a bitch about to come into season who wants to have puppies. They would have liked her dog to sire the bitch but sadly it had an undesceneded testicle and was castrated.

I was asked if I would let Dennis sire this bitch. It is not something I had intended, but Dennis is a really great dog, with a good pedigree, should I be considering this request or not?

Thank you all for your comments, it seems many people failed to read what I said. I didn't say I was considering this, I asked should I be considering it. For information, I had no intention of letting Dennis do it, but I was pleased to read many of the very constructive comments, but sad about others. I am sure somebody will have already advised Many Tears that I am planning to mate Dennis, so they will now have to eat humble pie and advise them we are not.  :005:

I'll lock this now and can't for the life of me think why you posted it if you had no intention of using Dennis at stud - other than to stir the pot and get the reactions you did :shades:

Why should anyone have to report to MT?  They can read this for themselves and frankly comments like these  do no-one any favours  ph34r

Dennis - Should I breed
« Reply #18 on: March 09, 2013, 10:56:21 PM »
I posted last week about somebody asking me if we would consider mating Dennis with their bitch. My question was, "should I be considering this" not "I am considering this" It was never my intention to try and cause an issue, although it does seem to have been taken in this light by some.

Sure, it was very tempting, but at no point did I ever consider it, I just wanted to ask for the views of my fellow COL'ers. Sadly, there were some comments that were very hurtful to me from people who had obviously not fully read what I posted, but as I have two gorgeous neutered girls and one very contented boy, it would be very wrong of me to allow him to breed.

Having adopted Rosie from Many Tears, I have been very mindful that I have to do everything in my power to ensure she has a great adventure for the rest of her life and I do keep them updated with her progress.

We were considering showing Dennis, but after seeing all the work required to go to Crufts, I have decided this is not for me. Once Dennis is fully mature we will be making an appointment for him to ensure we keep our status quo. We still hope we may be able to show him in some local smaller shows, as we feel he has the right looks and temperament to compete.

Once Dennis is eventually neutered, I intend to offer my services as a foster home to many tears.
