Not a good day
« on: May 24, 2013, 09:52:56 PM »
A while ago mum had Millie and was unable to undo her harness until my dad came home and forced the catch apart, they told me she ran around like a loony with relief after but I had my suspicions that it was more in fear.  Sure enough the next time they had her dad went to put the harness on and experienced a 'Millie episode' with the over reaction and extreme submission/fear. He had not seen this yet and I did get the feeling he thought I was being soft with her  :shades:.

Up until today she had still been fine with me putting the harness on so I hoped it would have just been at my parents house for the problem. But earlier I went to put it on and all I did was touch the side of her leg as normal for her to l lift it and she really cried out   :'(. Even taking her out the front made no difference, if I went near her she cowered and rolled on her back. I don't think it's pain as she literally did just life a front leg and we play quite roughly/charge around with no signs of a problem, I think it was the fact we were in the front room instead of the hall

It just amazes made how quickly something becomes such a huge problem for her and it really worries me as she is just gradually getting harder to care for  :'(. I can't let her off lead much so how soon before she has neck problems? I'll try again in the morning but not holding out much hope. Sorry for the long self indulgent ramble!

What a difficult situation for you :bigarmhug:.

I don't know what sort of harness you've got, but could you try a different one to see if Millie will be more accepting of one that is put on in a different way?

Is she on any calming herbs or supplements? Louis was on CSJ Calm Down for a couple of years and I like to think it helped him a bit, although it's really hard to judge.

She is a lot better on zylkene but other herbal supplements haven't made a difference. I have Ben struggling with her getting massively hyped at work for a couple of reasons and thought I should put her back on it.

I'm sorry to hear this :-\. It is amazing how the smallest of things can affect them greatly, isn't it? I hope you manage to work through it with her, and she is happy to wear it again.

Brodie isn't keen on harnesses at all, so I have a Perfect Fit harness from Dog Games - it comes apart into three pieces so there is no lifting legs or putting her head though anything. It's much less stress free for her, although she'd still rather not have it put on :shades:

The Mekuti T-Touch harness can also come fully apart...

Sorry to hear she's had a set-back...  :-\

I have the perfect fit for Lyla and I agree that its really good for dogs that don't like lifting legs......or in Lylas case, anything going over her head!

I tried in the hallway and got one leg in and back off again before she really knew what was happening, I gave her a biscuit and she then rolled onto her back

I'll keep doing that in the mornings and see what happens.  Have the dreaded haircut to look forward to tomorrow, Valium at the ready!  ph34r

I feel your pain. Good luck for the groomers. I used to get quite stressed about that too which becomes a vicious circle as it gives off the wrong vibes and fuels the situation.

Her collar snapped this morning when she spotted a cat! I think I should just not walk her any more  :shades:

So sorry to see Millie is struggling at the moment. I do hope she settles quickly.
The perfect fit harness is great as you don't have to lift legs, or put it over their heads and they are strong.
