Raw feeders: Have you created an intolerable food snob?
« on: January 15, 2014, 04:21:08 PM »
Stanley has never been particularly keen on kibble, but since we switched him onto raw, he turns his nose up at anything that's not raw meat, or occasionally a bit of cheese. A well meaning assistant in Pets at Home the other day offered him a biscuit - I've never seen such a look of utter disdain as he sniffed and refused it!  :lol2:

Any suggestions for training treats that might work would be gratefully accepted, it's costing me a fortune in chicken breast!

I don't feed raw but my friend Bluegirl does and I no her dogs love liverbread. Easy to make but smells your home out. Hence I make it for us both :005:

Jinley is the same - she has even been known to take the biscuit then just drop it at their feet as if to say "If you think its so good, you try it!"  :005:

What she does like though are small cubes of cooked liver or at our local Poundstretcher they do chicken coins which are dried chicken breast pieces.

Funny little things arent they  :luv: :luv:

Daisy still eats everything, especially stuff that she's not meant to have (like my cereal this morning!  :005: )

However, she does have a rather rude habit of spitting out treats kind people give her when we're out  :021: She sits nicely and takes the treat, then decides she doesn't want it, and spits it on the floor, and then bounds off leaving one very mortified mummy!  ph34r  :005: I don't know why, she gobbles them up in the house! But they obviously aren't very exciting outside  :005:

I use Nature's Menu treats, they can be broken down into smaller bits but are squishy and more appetising I think. Also Primula cheese as a high value treat, or a pouch of wet food she can have a lick of when we're out.

Charlie was once given a biscuit from a nice friendly man at Pets at home....it wasn't one he liked, do he flung it across the shop and waited for one of his choice  :005: :005: >:D

I dry my own liver in a low oven for 2 hrs. When dried out I chop into smaller 1x1cm piece freeze into small amount and take out of freezer just before walk.

Rosie will eat anything Ebony will spit out what she doesn't deem good enough!!

ETA not my liver  :005:

I did think that was going above and beyond just a tiny bit  :005:

Some great ideas, thank you. He does like liver cake, and I'll have a go at drying out bits of liver. For such a greedy breed they're incredibly fussy aren't they!

Try zooplus website. There is every animal part you can imagine on there in dried form, easily cut into training treats.
People laugh at me because I'm different, but I laugh at them because they are all the same.

Dried fish cubes, raw carrot pieces, cheese, liverbread, dried beef jerky.

Have to say though mine are raw fed but anyone who goes to the NW cocker meet ups will know that a treat is a treat whatever it is and mine will beg and snatch anyone's hand off for anything.

And yes, Wendy makes the best Liverbread as far as mine are concerned. :luv:
