Cocker specific groomer in chester?
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:22:40 PM »
anybody know of or would recommend a groomer for cockers in/near chester? i do Jamie myself but would like to have a look around a few groomers and choose one as my 'emergency groomers'. i don't want one that puts them in cages, or uses industrial blowers to dry them (he won't be having a bath at the groomer anyway). I'm looking for a highly recommended one that would let me stay and watch the first time they do him. ideally i would like someone who works from home or has a small business. not a big chain or anything like that. and would like them to be experienced in hand stripping as neither scissors nor clippers will be going anywhere near his beautiful head. i have a feeling i am going to struggle  :005: can't imagine why!  :shades:

Judy McBride (Topday Cockers), Google 'Woof Cuts', Eastham, Wirral.
She has done well with her cockers at Crufts, and always did a beautiful job on my Bryn.

Have a look at www.classiegrooming.com
I do my two myself at the moment but am tempted to take Maddie there as her coat is getting more difficult to manage.
A neighbour goes there and there is a cocker at the Rally class I go to who is clipped by him and he always looks lovely.
He hand strips too and as you'll see by the site he wins loads of competitions

That's interesting considering I live five minutes away. I will check them out. Thank you.

I do my own grooming but would definitely recommend  classiegrooming Sara as Mike will do an excellent job  :D

Is it the same one that Wendy has told you to contact?

Mike's dogs are wonderfully turned out and he knows cockers inside out!

Mike runs a commercial grooming shop, and although he is "The Man" for cockers you may have to compromise on some of things on your list and I think most groomers would prefer the dog was washed and dried on the premises as good preparation makes for a better finish, so again be prepared to make compromises. Good luck.

Definitely had to compromise on the bathing and drying. But feel okay with mike doing it. I've just heard too many awful stories about the drying machines they use. Got about a dozen questions to ask mike on Tuesday and he's going to have a look at Jamie's coat and tell me what he can do with it :)

I took Murphy to Woof Cuts in Eastham this week (though her name was Judith Silk-Smith) and she has done a fantastic job with him. He only really needed a tidy up but he came back with a gorgeous shiny coat and all his puppy fluff has gone. She is also incredibly reasonable with her prices too.

Plus Murphy had the added bonus of a play with her working cocker too.

I'm glad Murphy enjoyed his haircut and time at Judiths,  she really is good.
Beau will be getting 'the full treatment' when we return to the UK in the summer !
