Hello - some behaviour I'd appreciate thoughts and experience on. We have a 10 month old cocker
She is normally very sociable with people and with most dogs. We live in a small city, and she is very used to walking down a busy street with lots of people, plenty of dogs, traffic noise etc. No problem. However, when we are out and about in a much quieter countryside area, on numerous occasions she has reacted to lone or small groups of people by barking. Often when they are quite in the distance. I guess the difference is very much in the setting and surroundings. Has anyone experienced anything similar with their dog?
Thanks

You may not see this but I see no one has replied but I have a similar problem and wonder if you have resolved or any advice. I have an 8 year old Orange Roan who has done well at scent work classes, passed obedience training and has off lead walks in the park with no problem. As a pub he joined us in pubs and slept whilst there. However since then ( and not for years now) he has been taken to a dog friendly tea room and pubs when on holiday and at home but barks aggressively when people, bar staff etc approach and sometimes when no-one is approaching. We sat outside a pub and took him a filled kong to keep him busy but when finished he went for a staffie walking past on a lead. He can now at home bark when I call to my sister who is in another room, we can't have a conversation if we are not in the same room. He was reasonably well socialized as a pup but whilst waiting outside a shop a lady picked him up once without asking and he was quite upset, could this have caused it ? However when younger he always went up to other dog walkers in the park for attention. He has turned out to be a reactive dog who now guards me in the house from my sister who he loves and spends time on her bed at night but if she comes near me in the same room he barks aggressively and would bite. He doesn't seem to know what to do and sometimes grabs the edge of sofa or even me and has bitten me although I am the one he is guarding. I've read Orange Roan's can be very vocal but not always aggressive and I found your post interesting. Jaffa also has some separation anxiety and my sister's gentle 14 year old lab has always kept away from won't walk past him or get in the car if the spaniel gets in first. There has never been a fight but he wants a quiet life. He has allergies for which I give him injections, no problem, ear issues, no problem cleaning unless sore, but he won't allow me to get knots out of his coat or trim him feathers or feet. The expense has been horrendous, my last Spaniel being rescue, no aggression, a girl but also with many health issues. Our labs and retrievers have all been golden compared to Jaffa. It's such a shame as we like to share our social life with our dogs and are unable to take him to public places due to the barking, but he has off lead walks a good diet and is never left alone for long. Please let me know if you have managed to sort the barking.
