bathing your puppy
« on: June 01, 2007, 12:37:06 AM »
hello there

i have a new very messy puppy

he eats his poo and treads all in it

he is very dirty

been told by three people now not to bath him as i will wash all the natural oils out of his coat

but he smells pretty poor so wondered if there was a special shampoo that is good for their skin and doesnt wash all the oils out

also why do puppies eat poo and will he get poorly?

I wouldn't bath him yet as you've just got him home  ;) Wait at least a week. With regard to being dirty and eating pooh you are going to have to be very fast at picking it up  :005: hopefully he will grow out of this but seen as he is just home I wouldn't do anything about it just yet.
Make sure you make an appointment with your Vet for his check up and to arrange for his Vacs. Did the breeder give you a diet sheet and some food and a worming schedule? Personally all my puppies get a bath, Frontlined etc before they go to their new homes then the new owners don't need to worry about it  ;)

Hi there

Puppies eat Poo for various reasons and one being Diet. What is magic fed on? He is not alone on this as it is quite common but a habbit you are going to have to break. It wont do him harm but is one disgusting thing you want to stop him from doing now.

If you make sure that when he has been to the toilet its picked up straight away. When is he eating his toilet? and where?

Also if he was mine and really dirty then I would bath him with a puppy shampoo, but please make sure you dry him completely and make sure its not a frighteneing experience. I bath my dogs in my bath with the shower and I put a towel on the bottom so they dont slip.

Sorry had to modify this as I called him Charlie   ::) :005: sorry.

I've never heard of it... do you know who it is made by? Can you get it locally or in Pets at Home?

hi,

i have had my puppy, poppy, 2 weeks now and she trods on hers to,she thinks its the best game in the world when your trying to clear it up  >:(

i have bathed her in the sink with a good shampoo, and it did wonders, i put a  cloth down so she didnt slip, and she wasnt to keen at first, i gently wet her, then shampooed her then just rinsed it off using a jug slowly, didnt want to scare her on a first bath  :005: :005:

She loved the towel at the end tho!!  :005: when i finally got it back off her she enjoyed the tickles  :luv:
