Dry and moist Burns - update for those interested
« on: January 25, 2008, 07:34:53 PM »
The girls are really enjoying the moist food mixed in with their Burns dry food.  They have 'High Oats' ...for fatties  :005: and they are still a bit overweight  ::) I was wondering if I changed them over totally to the moist, which they are really enjoying, do you think it would be more fattening?  I have looked on their website and these are the ingredients....

Moist:        [Contains:Lamb (58%), Rice (10&), Carrots (4%),
                  peas (2%)]

Typical Analysis/100g: Protein 10%, Oil 5.4%, Fibre 1% , Ash 1.4%, Moisture 75%.

Dry:          [Contains: Oats (min 56%), Chicken, BrownRice, Peas, Chicken Oil, Seaweed, Minerals & Vitamins.]

Typical Analysis/100g: Protein 20.0%, Oil 7.5%, Fibre 6.5%, Ash 7.5%, Vit A 8000 iu/kg, Vit D 1500 iu/kg, Vit E 50 iu/kg, Moisture 8%, Copper 15mg/kg, Sodium 0.40%, Calcium 0.93%, EFA 2.13%, Carbohydrates 50.5%

but I don't really know if the moist food would be more fattening   Wish it were like human food and I could compare calories  :005:

Can anyone tell me if one would be better than the other for my rather cuddly babes  :005: ... thanks.

I would give Burns a ring on Monday and ask, they are very helpful on the phone.

Bella loves the tinned stuff (has a very small amount mixed with kibble) - she does a dance as i'm dishing it out and chase's her bowl round the room in an attempt to get every last crumb

For those of you interested I emailed Burns and this was their reply:

"Moist foods are higher in protein and fat compared to dry food. The higher fat levels make the food ‘more tasty’ which is why your dogs are loving it.

If your dogs are slightly over weight we would recommend feeding a reduced amount of the dry food with maybe just a spoon of the moist food as a token gesture."

Aww well it was nice while it lasted girls, but its back to the dry stuff  :005:
