Advice re booster
« on: February 19, 2008, 10:25:55 AM »
Firstly I've just realised I'm a crap owner after checking all my vaccine records I realised Henry has not had his booster for two years. How the dickens I've managed to miss this is anyones guess. So yes you can all shoot me now. My question is sould we start again (as the vet is reccomending) or should I just have him boosted (vet not keen). In view of Jasper being diagnosed with Lupus and vaccines being one of the potential causes (not in his case though) and some vets now advocating only giving boosters every two to three years I'm in a quandary. What would you do?

P.s. all my other dogs are up to date just so you don't think I'm completely irresponsible.

I would not vaccinate but have him Titre tested....but even then any dog that is unwell in the slightest should not be vaccinated...how about phoning one of the vet schools for their advice...or asking you vet too, he may not want to but your vet can not refuse you?

I would seriously consider the titre testing first though.  We had Fenn done as she may have had Autoimmune anaemia and was advised not to get her vacinated EVER again.  Her titre came back that she had antibodies for everything apart for Lepto so against my better judgement she had that as we have had Lepto around our area and she is a gundog whom would be in water and near rats etc....touchwood she has been fine but I will always now get her titred and go from there....she was never truely diagnosed but as you know what your baby has I would really think hard before vacinnating further.

For info - Fenn has only ever had her first puppy vacs - she is now 16 months.

Thanks guys I was leaning to the idea myself not sure vet will be chuffed but hey. Henry hasn't been to the vets in since his last booster so it shows how robust he is and Jasper will never have a booster again although I will have him titre tested later in the year.
