Competition definitely makes it worse, Jarvis drew blood from a dogwalker who gave him a treat next to his own dog. :o ph34r When it's just me and him he's gentle 90% of the time, except if he's been bunny hunting or playing, then he's too hyped up and he snatches. ::)

Domino isn't too bad for snatching but Spike is another one with jaws like a crocodile!! >:(

As I value my fingers & my mother likes giving the dogs treats & her skin is very fragile we always give the treats from a closed fist; I keep my knuckles on top to start with & then slowly turn my hand over & gradually open my fingers; by then the initial excitement has worn off a bit & I find Spike will then take his biccy more gently. ;)

He's very good at licking 'Primula' cheese out of the tube though!!

I agree, Indi was fine until I got Kody then she started snatching, I still have to tell people if they want to give her a treat (Agility instructors) they must say gentle otherwise you could almost loose a finger, also partly  because at agility she is hyped up. I was taught to hold treat in closed hand if the dog nudges hand no treat as soon as they back away open hand like feeding a horse and say gentle its partly knowing they can have it but not to rush wait until they calm down settle is another word I use a lot which means calm down and wait they have learned that when you get over excited jump up and down like a lunatic you don't get a turn, or food good things come to those who wait patiently. My problem with Kody is that is does settle drops down tailwagging like crazy but whines the whole time , still working on that. :shades:
